Does anyone else like or go to Drum Circles?
Its the craze of Ocean Beach San Diego. Several people with their tribal or conga drums beating the skins in harmony. Very peaceful and exhilirating at the same time. Occaisionally a guitarist or harmonica player may join in. They do attract the crowds too.
Anyone else been to a Drum Circle?

2. I've been to one in Austin, at Eeyore's Birthday
Yes, the donkey, it's an Austin thing.

Large group of drummmers, people just walked up and joined. Probably 20 or so. The whole crowd bounced along with the rhythm. Weird, interesting. I found it more invigorating than relaxing, but you had that whole unified crowd syndrome going, so I guess that was relaxing. Something neat about being with a hundred people or more all bouncing up and down with you to a forceful beat.

4. In OB the drummers siton the wall by the pier.
Facing the street with their backs to the ocean. The tourist types stand in front of them and listen. The OB locals, hipie-types, dance in the sand behind them. Its such a difference in the two types who come to listen.

9. This was a true circle
Seems to be an annual thing, and the pagans in Austin seem to initiate it. The festival is in a long park, and they stake out the end away from the booths, and sit in a little depression, I think, on a clearing where the sidewalk makes a loop. So it's a big circle. I'm sure they do this at other times, but that's the only place I've run across it. Everyone just melded together, from the Austin hippies to the newcomer yuppies.

3. No, but they follow my friend R and I around.
We go sit on a patio and drink some sangria, suddenly a drum jam appears.
Sitting on her patio having a bbq? Drum jam.
Strolling through the street festival? Drum jam.
Waiting for the bus? Drum jam.

6. I've been to that one. And the one in Encinitas...
that was banned due to freeper types upset with "hippies" hanging around their beach area.

7. We had some Aboriginal drummers
at a Unitarian service I was at.

It was absolutely amazing. I'm now looking to find a pow wow to attend, to enjoy it again. :-)

11. me too.
used to be around them all the time. Used to have a nice drum I got from someone that stole my girlfriend. I ended up with the drum, the consolation prize. Couldn't play it though.

12. About 2x./year this Quaker & her Catholic SO go to Wicca stuff
which involves a lot of guys drumming (and great Marguerita, and jumping over candles, and readings, followed by fireworks.) Hail & farewell!

Always an interesting night
