For me, it was probably "Bang and Blame" by REM.

I heard it while on hold on the phone not that long ago.

look what they done to my song

look what they done to my brain ma
look what they done to my brain
well they picked it like a chicken bone
and i think i'm half insane ma
look what they done to my song

look what they done to my song

look what they done to my song ma
look what they done to my song

it's the only thing i could do alright
and they turned it upside down
oh ma
look what they done to my song

5. I heard a MUZAK version of that famous Kenny G song once
I kept wondering why they bothered to re-record it, the original sounded like Muzak in the first place.

9. It could have been the version done by Devo
As I recall, Devo put out an album years ago consisting solely of 'Muzak' versions of their hits, called "EZ Listening" or something like that. I think it was a very rare, limited issue, and is long out of print.

11. I'm not quite sure if it qualifies
as muzak, but it was one of the strangest things I ever heard:

The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies, played by three ukuleles.

12. "Back in Black" by AC/DC
This was playing on Muzak in an elevator in a doctor's office building. It was all Muzak-ed out, and I could just visualize grandmotherly types tapping their feet to it.

13. Although I've not heard it, there's a MUZAK "Springtime for Hitler".
Saw Mel Brooks discussing it once in a TV interview.

14. In Japan, a full choral version of Camptown Races
It sounded like about 200 voices singing the Hallelujah Chorus.

It ended with a coda:"And I bet my money on the bob---tailed....naaaaag!"

It was obvious that whoever made the arrangement didn't speak English well enough to know what an inelegant phrase that is.
