1. I hear ya, Lynne
I find myself checking it out at least a few times a week. Those people are really loony. Scary loony. The actually let these folks breed and raise children? I'm very afraid.

We did make it through Tisha B'Av yesterday, though. I saw you posted about that in another thread. Guess they're not so smart after all.

2. Yes, I visit that site once a day just to get a laugh
at what those wackos are posting. They are salivating about the Mid-East wars and hoping this is the end of times and Jesus will be returning to rapture them.

3. Admitting your addiction is the first step.
I suspected your addiction when I saw several posts from you regarding that site. I must admit that I couldn't resist checking it out today, and I was surprised to see such rational discussions of such an irrational subject.

one poster has this sig line:

"Besides, there is really no such thing as homophobia. It is a false concept created by the gay community to smear the healthy aversion to a unnatural and disgusting deviancy."

no he is the one that is disgusting.

6. Check this out
Think they project much? (although they're dead on with Scientology & with Christian Identity, I guess they refuse to see just how racist & bigoted they themselves are):

"This is a Christian message board. Teaching that does not agree with the Bible is not to be promoted. This includes, but is not limited to, Mormon, Jehovah Witness, Scientology, Christian Identity, New Age, Shepherd's Chapel, Sacred Name Movements, and Seventh Day Advent teaching. Those who adhere to these beliefs are welcome to discuss Christianity in the Apologetics forum. (Gal 1:6-8)

If anyone is personally defaming another member, then we certainly encourage you to report such posts. We will not tolerate demeaning attacks against anyone, whether they be Catholics, muslims, athiests, Protestants, or martians.

On the other hand, we will not tolerate false doctrine either, and will continue to expose such false teachings where they exist. Many groups describe themselves as Christians, but are in fact cults. They grossly adulterate the Scriptures, adding to them and twisting the meaning of existing Scriptures in such a way as to render them incompatible with Christ's true teachings. Teachings that state that Jews no longer exist is an example of what we deem 'cultic' material.

Rest assured that we do not unfairly target any single religion. Members of this board have exposed false teachings within the Protestant church as well (many of the TBN crowd such as the "Word of Faith" or "name it and claim it" crowd are good examples)

Please feel free to report any post which you feel is demeaning of others. We'll try to promptly investigate!

Just be aware that exposing or otherwise questioning a false teaching does not necessarily constitute "demeaning", and that we in administration ultimately rely not on our own opinions, but rather on the Holy Scriptures as the basis for evaluating the legitimacy of any given doctrine."

The other two "Catholic" boards I scan but you have to pay to post are http://www.cwnews.com and www.catholicmatch.com

Anything but total submission to Rome, and no issues beyond Abortion and anti-Gay Marriage is tolerated by the posters (not by the board admin though at catholicmatch). This is even though Catholic Social Teachings go quite broad and the Church is no a subset of the Republican party.

Edit: Disclaimer, the liberal Catholic woman I am dating I found in the middle of that quite conservative CatholicMatch website. :D

"Father Z," the admin, is a total Freep. Very uncharacteristic of even the official Vatican stance on stuff like war & social justice (which are very progressive, despite the issues of gay rights and abortion).

12. I just have to go to work
I get to ponder what I mockingly refer to as thr "question of the day" from my coworker. Here are some recent questions for you to think about:

"do you think that you can feel it when people pray for you?"

"I wonder what this ice cream will taste like in heaven?" (on a day when somebody went to the Dairy Queen and treated everybody)

"Won't this taste good in heaven?" - variation on the question above (no pun intended)

"Don't you think it will be cool to be raptured?"

"Aren't you excited about this end times stuff?"

When they weren't raptured on 6/6/6 I asked when the next day was. I was told that it was 7/7/7 because those are "holy numbers"
I should have said "No, they're just whole numbers."

I'll be glad when the rapture comes. At least I'll get some friggin' peace and quiet ! ! !

14. What's scary is how many people DON'T understand this
phenomenon. Especially here in the Northeast, where end-times fundies are less numerous.

I was telling my book group about how scary it was that the President believed in this concept, and they didn't believe me.

They didn't believe
1. That Bush believed it and
2. That ANYONE believed it.

They thought I was making it up out of the whole cloth to besmirch our Fearful Leader. Especially Catholics - "I went to 12 years of Catholic School/CCD and never heard anything about this" "I never saw anything about it in the Bible"

37. Is that site for real??
I was just reading their FAQ, and it is truly freaking out there! Surely this is a satire site.
:wtf:

To wit, activities they do not allow:

Date setting is seen by some as a positive thing: it gives people something to look forward to, and if it turns out to be untrue (as EVERY prediction to date has), then they just scrap the prediction and look for the next one. To others, it is a real detriment. It can be a huge letdown and can challenge a person's faith to see "iron clad" scriptural "proof" about a date, and then to watch it come and go with no activity. We had a horrible experience with this in September of 2000 and made the decision at that time to err on the side of caution and disallow that practice. While we don't fault people for being energized by this practice, we just ask that they recognize that it can do more harm than good and thay they accept the fact that these discussions are not welcome here!

Pin-the-tail-on-the-antichrist (PTTOTA) is another popular game that folks like to speculate about. It is our position that rather than entertaining onesself by spinning the wheel to see which public figure can be named satan incarnate, that we should be praying for these people, that they find salvation and thus take themselves out of the running. To clarify further, this is a pre-trib board, which means that it is our scriptural interpretation that the church will not be here when the AC is revealed.

Here's what Ladybug posted:
"I read on another board (can't say since we're not allowed to start board wars) that they were laughing hysterically about people here getting excited over this conflict and expecting the Rapture, and its members were making a concerted effort to flood our board. Of course, there's no way to tell how many visitors were actually interested in the events of the day or were part of the flood. "

40. I've been reading that forum too. It seems that the only thing
Edited on Mon Aug-07-06 02:19 PM by izzybeans
that keeps some of these people from a murderous rampage is the idea that those they wish to do harm will "burn after the rapture" while they ascend on their "chariot of chocolate and feathers" (as David Cross said about Bush). Without the hope of the chocolatey chariot we could expect some random acts of violence aimed at the "evil" factions in cahoots with the anti-christ: which is so totally Sam Donaldson (who is the voice of spongebob by the way;)). There are too many "If I didn't have the comfort of knowing I'm a pre-trib. saved person and that he'd burn in hell. I may burn him myself"...to think otherwise.

If you go have fun I recommend a backstory that includes the temptations of "same sex" marriage, and a desire for a call to be saved.
