Down 35 pounds and counting.
Started a 1500 calorie per day diet after the first of the year.
Since retirement in '99 I had slowly blimped up to 275.
Just now weighed in at 240.5.
Yea me!

3. I dunno. Maybe 225 or 230. Then we'll see.
My "ideal" weight is around 195.
I'm 6'2".
I like to cook/eat/drink too much to get that low I think.

So I'm about 20 points above my target weight. I hope you make yours and stay there. If I get similar results I'll post them too.
:)

2. Excellent
I've lost almost 30 since last month. I had a gastric band placed on me a week ago.

30 down... 100 to go for me.

7. Yep, Nordic Walking.
Use poles, kinda like cross country skiing.
Do 3 miles most mornings.
They say the poles give some upper body conditioning and burn about 20-25% more calories than without.
I like it.

10. Many Congrats!
Keep at it! It's always inspiring to one to see the difference, and inspiring to others (like me) to keep at it, too. :hi:

12. You can see the "diet" here:
http://walking.about.com/cs/walkoflife/a/dayservings.htm

I say "diet" because there's nothing you can't eat.
Just smaller portions.
Took a little getting used to.
Now it's just the way I eat.
We "fool" ourselves by using largish salad plates.
You still fulfill the "full plate" psychological thing and satisfy the "always-clean-your-plate" part your mama drilled into you since birth.

13. Yea you!!
I did exactly the same...started on 1400-1500 cals in June, but usually more around 1400. Around 20 pounds down now, slow but sure. I work out three to five days at Curves and that is helping too. My favorite part: my legs suddenly look thin!

Congrats!!!! I'll be thinking about you the next time I skip a dessert. :)

14. You learn where you want to "spend" your calories, don't you?
I really like that part.
"Yeah, I could have dessert, but I'd really like to spend that on another Scotch & soda."
Works for me.

15. I know!! Do you track?
I have a whole stack of scrap papers that I've tracked on since I started. I keep them because sometimes I write myself helpful notes and tips.

Do you have a cheat meal? Monday is my weigh-in day (keeps me honest on the weekends), and I allow myself a cheat meal on Monday nights. All food and drinks, no limits. But I usually have too many Scotch and Sodas and fall asleep, so I end up not eating that much. And I have some very strange posts on DU on Monday nights.

20. Don't know about tracking.
What's that?

Not exactly "cheat meals", but we kind of average things out.
Especially if we're dining out or with friends.
Maybe hit 1800 cals today and cut back a little tomorrow.
I'm eating more fruit (especially bananas) than I used to.

Our friends have been very supportive and encouraging.
Now we split a steak or slab of grilled tuna.
Our hosts are not offended.

The more we eat less, the less it takes to feel satisfied.

21. Just means keeping track of your calories on paper.
The "experts" say that if you keep track of your cals in writing, in a journal or whatever, you're more likely to stay within your range and therefore have better results. Years ago when I was dieting, I decided to try it and it was the first time I was successful in losing what I wanted to lose, so I'm "tracking" again this time. I just grab a piece of scrap paper in the morning and keep it in my pocket and jot down the cals I take in throughout the day.

24. OK. I guess we're "ballparkin"?
The main thing was learning "portions".
I stuck that list on a kitchen cabinet.
After 4 or 5 days of referring to the list, we pretty much had it down.

What's really worked for us is the smaller plates.
Sounds dumb, but it's true.
You can FILL UP a salad plate and it's still less calories than you used to eat.

16. Nice! Weight loss really is all about math.
Burn off more than you take in and the pounds come off. Amazing how that works.

Congratulations! :toast:

19. Egg-Zackly!!!
Did a lot of online research.
There ain't no magic bullets.
Grapefruit, Atkins, Hollywood, Lo-Carb, etc.

If you use more calories than you take in you lose weight.
Period.
It's a law of nature, or physics, or something.

22. tell me about it!
I was out nearly 50 quid the last time i filled up the tank, and
i'm counting ever bleedin' penny. The petrol price is 1.06 per litre (pounds sterling)
and its too bad my car eats so many calories, cuz if it got fat, i'd be happier,
cuz then it would store more energy. :-)
