My new Mac is a big, expensive paperweight
Edited on Fri Aug-04-06 03:24 PM by spinbaby
Apple, in their infinite wisdom, decided that new Macs no longer need modem ports. But they sell these cool little USB modems for $49. Except that they're out of stock. Maybe by the middle of the month I can hook my new Mac up to the Internet and retire my iBook running System 9.

Yeah, I know I can buy another modem, but they're big and clunky and I don't want a box on my desktop.

:grr:

1. People still use dial-up?

2. Welcome to the countryside
No broadband. Someday, when we're feeling wealthy, we'll spring for satellite.

3. Wow...here it ended up being cheaper getting cable than using dialup
I just figured everywhere had it.

4. Nope
Country living: no broadband, no cable, no water, no sewer, no gas. Wish we could say we also had no traffic, but we seem to be plagued by drunks in loud cars who roar by in the middle of the night.

5. I'm close to civilization, but surrounded by woods.
So we have broadband and cable, but not water, sewer, or gas. Plus we have the drunks in loud cars.

I guess I'm officially living on the outskirts.

6. Same here, but amazingly enough
I have DSL. Most of the folks on the valley floor who are not in one of the towns, though, are shit out of luck. No DSL, no cable, satellite too expensive. I have a friend in NM in the same situation.
