When is the last time you cleaned your refrigerator?
I just cleaned mine. I mean, I took out all the shelves and drawers, washed them, scrubbed down the walls, etc. I still have to do the door shelves, and I've been at it for 1-3/4 hours.

It's certainly a good activity to beat the heat. :)

BURMA!

Why did say Burma?

I panicked.

Oh. Perhaps it's from the zoo.

Which zoo?

How should I know which zoo? I'm not Doctor bloody Bernowski!

How does Doctor Bernowski know which zoo it came from?

'E knows everything.

Oooh, I wouldn't like that, that'd take all the mystery out of life. Anyway, if it came from the zoo, it would have "Property of the zoo" stamped on it.

No it wouldn't! They don't stamp animals "Property of the zoo"! You can't stamp a huge lion!

They stamp them when they're small.

What happens when they moult?

Lions don't moult!

No, but penguins do! There, I've run rings around you logically!

Oh, intercourse the penguin!

35. I don't do that very often...and I found a trick to keep stuff from
'walking' to the edge of the fridge (I keep vintage tins and kitchen stuff on top of mine)
I use that waffle-y stuff meant for drawer liners under the stuff on top; keeps it from rattling and moving about.

52. The stuff on the back of it...gets all dusty. Some of them have internal
ones but there should still be an opening on the back to vent heat, so vacuum that out instead if that's what yours has. The dust keeps it from working as efficiently as it should.

4. Back in late May, early June sometime
Spent all morning on it one day. Looked sooooo purty.

Then....well....

When the kids go back to school I'll do it again. Maybe this time it'll last more than a few weeks.

So...where would you like me to send them?

11. Not quite the same thing, but I just defrosted my freezer.
Funny thing was, when the HUGE chunk of ice that ate the freezer finally melted away, it revealed a little notice saying that it should be defrosted when it got to a thickness of 1/4 inch.

Whoops.

41. last october after returning from a 2 week hurricane rita evac.
i only thought we would be gone a few days so i didn't take stuff out. stupid me. i had fish and chicken in the freezer and assorted stuff in the fridge. a pitcher of tea is disguisting after being in a hot box for 2 weeks.

i need to confess that i didn't clean it out, the boyfriend did. i reached into the freezer and grabbed a hot bag of chicken (i still didn't have power) and started gagging. and i couldn't do anything to block the smell. so he told me to go outside and relax and he did it all. also it took about a month to get all the smell out of the damn thing but it was only a year old and i was not about to throw it out. two bowls full of ground coffee finally did the trick.

a month after katrina we were able to return home and my refrigerator was one of the few that were saved in my neighborhood because my quick-thinking husband had turned off the power so it didn't get "zapped"

but never again will i leave poultry in the refrigerator when i have to evacuate

oh god, i don't think i can even describe it

like the "rita" survivor above, i did have a strong man's help, my husband, i did the first cleaning because i have little sense of smell, but he took over w. the charcoal, baking soda etc and did all the fine tuning that got the smell out -- my hero!

48. I know what you mean about the poultry
We ended up burying formerly frozen chicken breasts in the backyard because they were quite fragrant after about four days. The containers were stuffed in a garbage bag and you know it smells bad when a garbageman grimaces and holds the bag out at arm's length. :D

So yes, Hurricane Katrina was the last time I cleaned my fridge. It needs to be cleaned again though.

50. doing the half assed version as we speak.
something reached the stink-up-the-entire-kitchen threshhold today so went on olfactory test mode and chucked the slimy bag of once-cauliflower. Changed out the baking soda, but before the soda had a chance to do the trick, husband assumed it was the pot of leftover beans and dumped them before I could stop him (they were fine - trust me, I checked) oh well. It's on freezer defrost now. Might rinse the veg drawer, but doubt if I will do much else - it just isn't that bad yet.

57. fermentation and surface tension
stuff bubbling up from below or stuff oozing over the edge and trailing along under the flat surface.

Not to mention the occasioan large splatter when a full container is dropped directly in front of the opened refrigerator. you would be amazed at where substances can adhere.

Don't ask how I know these things.
