Searching from 2004 till now on DU... the first appearance I can find on DU is this one, from last winter in the research forum, posted November 10, 2005:

If you search for "youtube" in the subject (which would bring up any links to youtube) between 2004 and January 2005, you get 5 topics. Since then there have been 208 topics posted with "youtube" in the subject. Crazy shit.

They beat all major corporations to the punch in finally giving music and pop culture fans what they've wanted for years since DuMbTV turned their backs on music and stopped taking chances decades ago: On Demand Video. Let the people watch what they want, WHEN they want. No more sitting through All-Request hour, wading through crap like Boyz II Men, Richard Marx and Roxette to see that early Echo and the Bunnymen video you haven't seen in decades. No more wondering when a video program you're going to WANT to watch will be on. And best of all, no more reality "shows" about princess little bitches arguing over stupid SHIT for hours on end (and the females are even worse).

So now it's only a matter of time before the corporate powers that be, as they do with EVERYthing that threatens their quest to buy more mansions and yachts while their artists starve to death, will pull the plug on this, clean it up (i.e. corporatize it) and push only the artists THEY want you to see. That means no more Slayer bootlegs, no more 80s vids you haven't seen in decades, no more out-of-print stuff, no none of that (unless, of course, you pay a small fee per video). It's going to be mainstream rappity bullshit, white-girl reality shows and Jackass videos. In other words, what MTV is now.
