I'm still sitting at the airport. I'll be on DU until one of two things
happens: 1) my laptop battery dies, or 2) they call my freakin' flight. :eyes: I busted my ample behind to get here on time, and the damn flight's been delayed twice. :grr: Supposed to leave at 7:30, and now it will be 10 PM at the latest. If I get home before midnight, I'll be really surprised. :grr:

The only station on TV at this particular gate is CNN. :eyes: Why the FUCK can't they actually put Countdown on??? Huh???? Why not???? I have been here listening to Wolf Fucking Blitzer and Paula Fucking Zahn whine and bitch, and I'm sick of it.

I feel sorry for the parents with small children here. And I feel sorry for the passengers, including myself. :yoiks: Cargo Capri Mommy has been chasing her toddlers around here because they're bored out of their minds and screaming and running everywhere. :eyes: There are other crying kids at another end of the gate.... believe me, I can hear them!

As long as I'm here posting, I'll keep my sanity. :D

3. Wow! You're right!
All the war talk on CNN is sure to lead to Armageddon and/or the Rapture. I'm just glad Paula Fucking Zahn is telling me about it. Repeatedly. :eyes: Oh, and she's doing her Mel Gibson expose in few minutes. Yeah, I'm riveted to my seat.

I feel bad for the Mom. It's stuff like that that scares me away from having another kid- I don't like the idea of being outnumbered.

5. Thanks, LeftyMom! I do too.
I feel bad for her and all the parents with small kids here. She's being as creative as she can about entertaining them. The kids look like they're about 2 and 3 years old (little boy and little girl), and she's doing a pretty good job of keeping them occupied. :) But you're right---she's outnumbered! :scared:

9. 2 and 3?
:scared: Can we take up a collection to get her an industrial bottle of Benadryl and a double umbrella stroller for next time? Poor thing.

I'm really lucky, the only times I've had to fly with LeftyKid I kept him up late the night before and he slept through all three legs of the flight. I just carried him through the airport in a sling (he was 2 1/2 then) and popped him in the carseat on the plane. It wasn't too bad except when I had to take him out of the sling and wake him up because some airport security idjit insisted he walk through the metal detector alone. In case he had a Glock in his diaper I guess :eyes:

And a Glock in his diaper? Oh, the imagery....

The kids are asleep now, so I think she's done a great job. Those kids haven't cried a bit.... which I'm sure makes her happy! :)

7. It;s pretty sucky, all right!
:eyes: Yeah, I hated sleeping in a super-comfy king sized bed by myself, with turndown service and chocolate mints on my oversized, sinky-comfy down pillows. All that luxury pales in comparison with sleeping in my own queen-sized bed with no turndown service, no chocolate mints on my pillow, and two big dogs and a big husband crammed in there too. :P

 I really will enjoy being home, though!

26. This might make you feel better: My daughter is presently
driving from Indianapolis to Orlando with a five year old and an eight year old, one of which is hers. They just finished the first leg of the trip and they are almost in Alabama, looking for lodging. She sounded a little wigged out. Probably a four wine glass dinner tonight. She would probably trade places with you right now. :)

43. Amsterdam Schiphol airport is a 15 minute train ride away
Edited on Fri Aug-04-06 07:47 AM by billyskank
from Amsterdam city centre. The station is directly beneath the airport, accessed by escalators going down from the main lobby. You want to buy a ticket to "Amsterdam Centraal," it is quite cheap.

Amsterdam Centraal station sits at the centre of three large streets extending radially away. The middle one, called "Damrak" will take you handily to Dam Square and the city centre.

(Schiphol airport is huge).

45. Ugh! I feel so sorry for you -I know the feeling
My worst experience was when I came in at LAX on my 13-hour flight to the US. I was exhausted, hungry and thirsty and it was hot. Not having been to the US before and being unfamiliar with the layout of LAX, I thought that I would get to the terminal nearest my flight and then have a bite to eat (working on the premise that LAX worked like most airports I know where the flight terminal is near restaurants or shops). Little did I realize that we were going to be transferred to one of those cubicles isolated from any of the restaurants or shopping outlets. The only source of food and drink were from vending machines and I couldn't use that because I only had a set of $100 notes and you don't put $100 notes in vending machines (even if you are that desperate). To make things worse it was very hot and the Northeastern blackout had come and gone the day before so my flight was delayed because of the backups in schedules from previous flights that had failed to depart earlier in the day or from the day before. I waited tired, hot, hungry, thirsty and frustrated for about six hours.

Boy was I glad when I finally made it to San Diego :bounce:

When I was eight, we spent six hours on layover at Prague Airport. I was too young to appreciate that I was in a country in a year in which communism was literally collapsing in that country. I think if I was the age that I was now at that time, I probably would have gone exploring to see whether I could find revolution on the streets:) But to an eight year old it was boring

But I feel for you NewWaveChick1981. Hope you get a flight soon and it's a smooth, pleasant and enjoyable ride back home
:hi:

46. Last week we were on our way to my brother's wedding
when the flight was cancelled an hour before takeoff.

Continental gave us no info-- finally I got someone on the phone who offered us 2 options, both of which would have made us miss the wedding, which was the next day.

We wound up booking a trip on Jet Blue instead, and spending an additional $2000 (!!!) in plane and taxi expenses.
