Liking a chain restaurant doesn't make you an anti-snob hero
Neither does listening to overexposed overplayed music, reading bestseller paperback thrillers, nor watching reality TV.

The only meaning is that you enjoy those activities. If snobs like something it doesn't inherently make it better, but at the same time if snobs -dislike- something it doesn't inherently make -that- better either. I'll never understand why people can't just disagree about tastes without getting their identities threatened and acting like a bunch of fucking babies. To me the only thing stupider than snobbishly crapping all over someone's opinion as pedestrian is arrogantly championing oneself as in disagreement with snobs. Don't let someone else's views define you, like what you like and dislike what you dislike without whining about people who might not share that view.

That's all thanks! :D

57. No, we're anti-snobbish here.
We're sometimes proud of the fact that the percentage of functioning wheels is greater on our residence than our motor vehicles. We're proud of the fact that a posh dinner out is Golden Corral. We're proud of the fact that dining out does consist of everything from McDonalds upwards.

Welcome to DU, from your Democratic Rednecks

15. My life is WAY to valuable
to waste not doing something or doing something just because someone else doesn't think it's good or what have you.
I am doing what makes me happy. I'm a good person. I'm not killing anyone. If I choose to kill myself with food; that's my business.
I love life; I love good food; I love my friends and my family and etc.
Happy eating and drinking! Embrace joy wherever you find it! Feel good. If you feel good eating what you percieve as well; great. If you feel good eating Olive Garden; great. That's where me and my girlfriends like to go have breadsticks and salad and wine; and since at the moment I can only afford to do that about twice a year; I'll damn go if I damn please. There are more important things for me to spend my energy on than where the hell you are eating. I just want you to be happy; so you don't feel like making ME unhappy!! ...as well as for other reasons.
Yum!!

I drive by there all the time, and every time I'm like "Dude, that must be the only Sambo's in the COUNTRY," and frankly, you really couldn't pick a more incongruous place for it. On the beach in a very wealthy yet strangely diverse community in California.

24. Right on, jp! Let people like what they like without putting them down.
Good grief. Who cares if someone likes the local mom and pop greasy spoon (one of my very favorite types of restaurants), and another person likes haute cuisine? Maybe some people like both. People like what they like, and they shouldn't be degraded or put down for it. Nor should those who like the mom and pop variety of food, restaurants, etc., look down on those who like the four-star stuff. To each their own. Isn't there enough going on in the world right now to waste energy on putting others down based on their individual tastes in thing?

48. Speaking of which, I'm dying to get an obscure early 80's pop song
"A Woman's Got the Power" by The A's. Anyone has it? Is it available at iTunes or something similar?

It's one of many songs that were featured in a series of ads for a cigarette brand in Brazilian TV at the time*. We here call it the "Emphisema Hits." Other songs (which I have) include:

"Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" by The Police
"If Looks Could Kill" by Heart
"Get It While You Can" by Gary O
"Freeze Frame" by The J. Geils Band
"Wuthering Heights" by Kate Bush (the only Bush that ever did anything good)
"Pain Lies On The Riverside" by Live

and lots of others I can't remember right now.

*easy... TV ciggy ads are now banned here too.

Edited on Thu Aug-03-06 07:21 AM by MrsGrumpy
many people consider this a cheap restaurant. I do not consider Cracker Barrel to be a cheap restaurant. I consider the greasy spoon on the corner to be a cheap restaurant. It puts it into stark relief for me, that even we...the defenders of the poor, the rigteous left... are disconnected from the reality of what it means to truly not have any money. :hi:

51. maybe it's just me
but I wasn't aware that the discussion of the chain restaurants had anything to do with snobbery. In my opinion, it had to do with personal tastes in food styles, no more, no less.
If anyone thinks they are superior because they do or do not eat at chain restaurants, then they are just fools. Where a person eats has nothing to do with who a person is...unless you are very shallow.

As for me, my fun goal is to try and eat at least once at the top 50 Zagat rated restaurants in NYC. However, that doesn't preclude me from eating at TGI Fridays, Ruby Tuesdays or the Olive Garden or any other chain.
