Since we're talking about restaurants, does anybody else have a wish list?
Edited on Wed Aug-02-06 06:59 PM by LeftyMom
I mean a list of places they want to eat at someday?

This would be mine:

http://www.foodswings.net/menu.html One of those vegan heart attack burgers sounds good. With fries and a chocolate shake. :9

http://www.millenniumrestaurant.com/ They had a Kucinich fundraiser here once but I couldn't make it. A whole restaurant of gourmet vegan food, only 2 hours from my house. *drool* Why haven't I eaten there yet? It's about $50/person, not counting the booze.

Everybody says fabulous stuff about Chicago Diner. http://www.veggiediner.com/ The cakes alone look worth the trip. http://veggiediner.com/menu7.html

Oh, and while I'm on this culinary road trip and apparently unconcerned about my waistline: http://www.mightyo.com/ Vegan Donuts! I can die happy now, and after I polish off a dozen I just might.

So where do you want to go eat someday?

1. Yes
There is a restaurant in north eastern Quebec called "Le Pied de Cochon" that got a five star rating from Michelin. I live about 20 miles from that resto. Think that I can a reservation? I called today. They can fit me in sometime in December. I can't help thinking that if Madonna were in our party, we could get in today.

Edited on Wed Aug-02-06 10:57 PM by pitohui
give them a $20 bill and ask about the night you want

if they laugh that off, send a different person from your party over at another time with a $50

i think it would work

good luck and post a restaurant review after you go

Besides, you should save "dining at the 'Y'" for special occasions. Nah, never mind, go ahead and do it every day if you want to. It's a low-calorie meal, after all.

There is no good time to freeze up or choke, after all, not in THIS sport.

And it's one of the very few sports where women can excel right on a par with men. No Ladies' Tees. In fact, in some cases the women can outpace and outdistance the men.

It's truly egalitarian. The ultimate Level Playing Field.

places. There's Mothers cafe and Garden. Varied cuisine, but largely health oriented. Then there's Mr. Natural's. Vegetarian and vegan Mexican fast food and bakery. Great stuff. http://www.mrnatural-austin.com/

And there's Madras Pavilion, South Indian vegetarian cuisine. They've got locations in other places.

4237 Alabama Street - menu includes plenty of vegetarian selections including Fool Mudamas over Hummus, Vegetarian Stuffed Grape Leaves (either ala carte or in a "wrap"), Sajj bread, Baba Ghanouj Wrap, Falafel Wrap, Fried Eggplant Wrap, Manakeesh, Lebanese Salad, Vegetarian Combo Plate, Fool Mudamas Fava, Spinach Pie, Arabic Cofee, assorted Lebanese pastries. All for reasonable prices (Falafel Wrap is $4.50 and it's huge.)

And I'm sorry they aren't the kind of place that appeals to you. But you asked.

1) Pudges, East Norriton, PA for a cheesesteak hoagie.

2) Peter Luger's Steakhouse, Brooklyn. I was last there in 1976, and I still remember it.

3) That BBQ place, somewhere in Mississippi, I can't remember the town (Tunica?), it was a long time ago and I might not have been entirely sober, and it was hot, Christ it's ALWAYS hot down there, but that was BBQ like I've never had before or since. Pork, natch. And the cornbread, and the slaw...I'd have died happy right there at that picnic table.

So there you have it.

Edit: I said "pervious answer." Think that's one of them Freudian thingies?

That there is my kind of mind. You have such as well. And that's a compliment.

What I really enjoy the most is a great restaurant with a laid back or funky decor:
Pearl Oyster Bar-get the lobster roll.
Mama Mexicana (what a dump! ...best Mexican ever)
Blue Ribbon Bakery.....

I'm a downtown girl at heart!

But I never say no to the wonderful "fancier places".

I'm not much help with where to eat though, there aren't many veg places that I know of, so I usually wind up grabbing lunch at the Nob Hill two blocks from the aquarium and sitting down on one of the benches to eat. Most of the restraunts are pretty seafood intensive. Even the one in the aquarium, which I find intensely odd. Spend $30 a head looking at fish all day, then eat fish. They do go out of thier way to educate people about avoiding non-sustanable fisheries though.

66. My brother and I are both big seafood fans, so I figured there
wouldn't be a lack of good options as far as that goes! A couple of the seafood restaurant sites specifically mention their use of sustainable products only, and things they've dropped due to over-fishing. I have the Frommer's guide and have been looking around online for some suggestions as well. In fact, I think the Frommer's writer even mentioned your idea of just picking up things from the various vendors along Cannery Row and just hanging out along the pier enjoying the views. Here in Iowa, we've been experiencing near 100° temps for over a week, so upper sixties-highs sounds amazing to me right now! A couple of the seafood restaurant sites specifically mention their use of sustainable products only, and things they've dropped due to over-fishing.

58. Monterey's Fish House
Very popular family owned business that serves very fresh fish and locals love it. Reservations are a must as they have a small dining room and it fill up fast. Expect to wait even with reservations, but it's worth it. Off the beaten path away from the tourist area but close. Local fisherman sell directly to the cooks in the parking lot in the afternoon so it has really fresh seafood and shellfish, and they know how to prepare it right!. Locals write crappy revues hoping to keep the damn tourists away, but don't be fooled. ;)

54. "Since we're talking about restraints, do..."
Yeah, so that's what appears in the subject line for this post on my list of blogrolled journals.

Why would "restaurants" be abbreviated to "restraints"? Is this only happening to me? I was like, "woah, we're talking about restraints? I'm clicking on that!" So I did, and it brought me to the restaurant post. So I was like, "woah, my mind is even dirtier than I thought." So I went back to MyDU and sure enough, it really said "Since we're talking about restraints, do..."

Weird...
:scared:

56. The spell check function has a dirty mind.
That's all.

Speaking of dirty minds, I'm loving your cousin's podcast. :)

57. If you were in the NY area, I'd recommend you check out the live show.
It'll be starting up again in the fall.

Him and his girlfriend are seriously the most entertaining people to have around on Thanksgiving & X-Mas.

64. Veggie Diner diner here
It may be good for a vegetarian restuarant but I could think of 25 veggie friendly places that are better than that joint. They have lived on their reputation. I refuse to go there anymore.
