OMG! Return of the King was AWESOME!
What a fantastic movie! Better than the other 2. The ending(s) were a bit too long, but they did little to detract from what should be best picture at next year's Oscars™. Went to see it at the midnight showing last night & didn't get home til 4 am. I'm draggin' at work now, but luckily things are slow, and it was WORTH IT!

I've never seen a crowd cheer at a movie like this. They played it on ten screens at midnight at the gigaplex here, and it was PACKED.

Still on a high from that flick. I needed it this week.

3. On my way Sunday afternoon
From all I've heard (and I'm speaking as a strict-constructionist Tolkien geek), it's an amazing movie.

4. I've got my tickets for today, I am watching it on the biggest screen in
Arizona, the Cine Capri. I am so psyched!!

I remember seeing the first Star Wars and being so blown away by it, and the LOTR trilogy is the same. Just too wonderful for words.

I love Viggo!!

12. 99% of the films today are pure dreck
And you have to dump on one that actually makes an attempt at uplifting people, and was a sincere effort to potray the novels? Did you even like the books? If so, I don't see how you could prefer the Ralpfh Bakshi animated versions over the new movies.

What films do you like? "Monster's Ball"? One of those Tarantino films that leaves you feeling ashamed to be human?

Please start a thread on a film YOU are enthused about, so that we can all dump on it.

Just putting my two cents in.

(Apologies for being this grouchy in the Lounge, this early in the day)

14. WOW you are mister grouchy

The last movie I even liked was Zoolander, mostly caused my brother law was in it.

Yes I read the entire series up to the Simarrilion.

17. Wish I could rag on 'zoolander'
just to be spiteful, but it was reasonably amusing.

How do you expect people to react when you come onto a positive thread about something with the deliberately hostile/provocative "It sucked donkey things"?

If you must, say it wasn't your cup o'tea, or start your own thread on why you think the LOTR movies are overrated, or don't say anything at all.

Posting a comment like you did seems to be exclusively to throw a wet blanket on what has been a positive experience for a lot of people. Why would you want to do that? Do you resent other people having a great time at something you don't much care for?

I hate professional wrestling, but I don't make a point of saying so on Professional Wrestling threads...

7. Saw it at midnight here in St Louis
and it was AWESOME!!! Wow! If this movie does not win a multitude of awards it means the "Academy" is biased against these types of films. Not once did I want to fall asleep.

The crowd was totally into the movie...we applauded and we cried...

A friend like Samwise Gamgee is a treasure.

I want to go see it again even though I am TIRED!

I get to leave work at 10:00 AM St Louis time today...

You saw it already??? My husband and I have been literally counting down the days until it came out. And just for the record, I LOVED the other 2. We can't wait until the DVD boxed set comes out. I foresee a completely couch potato weekend in our future. B-)

grumble grumble grumble....

I SO wanted to go to the midnight showing. I coulda gone alone but it would have meant the end of our marriage if I went to see RotK without him. Ah, the sacrifices a woman has to make sometimes...

22. Saved a vacation day for this.
I see it at 2:40 this afternoon. Me and my friend have taken vacation days (19th, 2001 and 18th, 2002) all 3 years, and saw the first showing at the United Artists IMAX screen at Colorado and I-25. The best Denver theater nobody goes to.

Ebert and Roeper said it was the best of the three, and completely satisfying...tying up all loose ends.

26. Don't feel bad, Gringo
I think it's tacky when people come in a post about something people feel enthusiastic about just to wet-blanket it and make fun of it. I think Demman showed a lot of class by apologizing, but it's still tacky to come crap on someone else's parade.

And I am waiting most anxiously to see if I get the extended edition of the Two Towers for Xmas, so I can do my own film festival at home with the first two and then go to see ROTK on the third day! I think Jackson & Co. have been as faithful to Tolkien as it is possible to be within the confines of a motion picture. I will forever be grateful to him for putting the premiere legend-saga of our era into visuals. Yes, sure, there's small things that disappoint the hell out of me - no Tom Bombadil, no Scouring of the Shire, etc., but on the whole, it's one of the best adaptations of a much-loved literary work in history.

because then it will be over. I have spent the last three years being amazed at this production, and I sincerely dread the day when I will no longer be able to look forward to the next installment.

4:15am (we are a long way from the theatre!) but it was worth it...
we watched Fellowship and Two Towers before we went...
Really good flick, worth the wait!

Awesome effects, very creative visuals, lots of little touches that make everything work. The ending dragged a bit, but who cares?
