World series predictions
I think it'll be redsox vs. Braves

I don't know who will win, I pray the sox will of course.

The redsox beating New York for the AL east and then the entire AL would be a great precurser to the NY/Boston conventions in 2004.

And of course Boston winning the world series(against the best southern team) for the first time in almost a century would be even better.

anyone disagree about who will win each league anyway?

It'll certainly either be Boston, Seattle, or NY for the AL and Atlanta or Frisco for the NL

I'd rather face San Francisco as far as our chances of beating them go, it would also be the machup of the 2 most liberal cities.

3. Yeah, but Red Sox Braves would have been a subway series...
...had the Braves not bolted for Milwaukee (then Atlanta) all those years ago.

Maybe the Cardinals can play the Orioles so we have a Cardinals/St. Louis Browns retro series (maybe next year). Or maybe the Mariners will play the Brewers so we can get the new and old Seattle teams (well, Brewers fans can dream anyway).

This year, my head tells me Giants/Mariners, but my heart says Cardinals/Red Sox.

35. yup
circa 1933 or so. The original facade still stands at Nickerson field on the Boston University Campus. Its amazing to think that Fenway and Braves field were maybe a mile apart and both operating at the same time.

8. I really don't think Seattle or New York come close to Bostons ability
especially Seattle.

Lets compare New York to Boston

Catcher-
Veritek is much better than Posada in everything except maybe homers, but what really makes a diff is fielding, average, and OPS

1B-
Millar and Ortiz as a pair are as good as Giambi and Johnson. Giambi's got the most homers and Johnson might the best fielder, but Millar has the best average and a great glove, and Ortiz knows how to hit behind fellow deisel dominican manny

2B-
Soriano is better than Walker, but Walker is still close to as good as the all-star Soriano

3B-
Mueller is twice as good as Ventura at the plate and Ventura is only a little better at fielding, upper hand goes to Mueller who's the best 3rd baseman in the league in my opinion

SS
Nomar has been better than Jeter this season, but they'll probably be about matched in playoffs

OF
Nixon, Manny, and Damon are the best outfeild in the game offense wise, yankees is mediocre

Pitching
Yankees have slightly better starters combined, but our bullpen is much better, because even with Mariano Rivera

39. Giants v.s. Red Sox
And the Giants will win this time. I know to discount the Cubs and the Red Sox right away. Those two teams are cursed.

But let's not forget the Marlins. The Marlins will make the playoffs even if they don't go to the series. They've got Dontrelle Willis and Mike Lowell. Believe me, they could win the N.L. wild card race.

Just like every year for the past 95, the Cubs will win the World Series.

Oh wait. It's been 95 years since they won one?

27. the red sox have the second longest world series championship drought....
..right behind the cubbies. of course the sox have at least been in a few series' in my lifetime.

you think times are bad now with the unelected chimp running the country. i had to live through the summer of 1969....and then to add insult to injury the cubs had to inflict the 1984 NLCS upon me. nearly 40 years without a world series appearance and all they had to do was win one more game against the lowly padres. by the time 1989 rolled around i was so numb it didn't matter. it's true, they are cursed.

32. Argggggghhh!! You Just Had To Bring Up 1984
Now i have to hate you for that!

Anihilated the Padres in Chicago. Then, 2 straight close losses caused by error produced unearned runs. Errors by a team that had the best overall fielding percentage in the majors that year. Then the great phony Steve Garvey (man, i hated that guy) had his only hit of the series. Padres win and then get waxed in the series by Detroit.

It was there for the taking. Darn it! The MVP and Cy Young winner on the same team! And the curse kicks in.

And, then you have to open that wound and put salt in it. I'll get you one day for this, Flush_Bush. Oh, i'll get you for this, for sure!

In '89, the team wasn't as good, so that one didn't sting as badly. But, you shouldn't have oughta brought up 1984!

17. Bostons got the 2nd best pitching of any team in the AL
in the last 30 days, after Oakland. Second lowest ERA, most strikeouts. Yankees are at 9th and 8th in those categories.

And there's no disputing who's offense is the best, by far the sox

number 1 in OPS in last 30 days, yankees are 7th
number 1 in OPS(.867) in entire season, yankees are 3rd(.806)

Theo is the best GM we've had in a long time and he's beating the yankees in getting good deals and giving Joe Torre a headache

We just got 3 great deals that were each better than deals the yanks got

Scott Williamson(who may see action tonight) is one of the best closers there is and might be as good as the yankees Mariano Riviera(who's the best closer I know of).

That means Brun Hyun-Kim will probably become a starter again, as he wants to. Now we have alot of quality potential starters and mid-relievers, who we could work into a deal for a real ace. Casey Fossom, BK Kim, Mendoza. All we need is one more semi-ace and we'd be unstoppable

Boston has the 18th best ERA in the majors. Sorry, but that's not going to get Boston anywhere and sure as hell doesn't qualify them for having the "2nd best" pitching in the AL. I'd take the Yankees, Mariners and probably even Anaheim's pitching over Boston's. Any staff that has room for John Burkett has serious problems. Offensive powerhouses with mediocre pitching don't win pennants. The Yankees have better pitching and better defense. Your talk about "giving Joe Torre a headache" and talking about the general manager means nothing in baseball terms. The Yankees are still the better team and I'd bet on them to win the AL East.

Sox bullpen era has been hovering around 3 since Kim came, now they have Peterson and Sauerback. The sox are stacked. They'll be in first comfortably by August 15th.

40. I love people like you.
People are obviously enjoying discussing a topic they like (baseball), and you come in and shit on our parade. It simply proves a great Internet law: no matter how innocuous your conversation, some stranger will waltz in and say whatever you like is crap, in a manner that would normally get their lights punched out if they had interrupted a real conversation in that manner.

Go take a long walk off a short pier.

28. If Maddux and Hampton wake up
and give Ortiz some help...

if the run production keeps coming from the wide range in the lineup that it has...

particularly if Lopez and Castilla keep hitting...

if Smoltz stays healthy...

if Shane Reynolds decides that consistency is a virtue (come back, Shane!)...

I'll predict that my Braves will *appear* in the Series. Not that I'm hedging or anything. ;-)
