The humidity has been running above 70% and I can't get the salt to pour. I even put some in a little salt celler so I could sprinkle the salt and it clumped up in the dish!

4. Keep some rice in the salt shaker.
The rice will help soak up the moisture.

The grains got so swollen that I couldn't get them out of the shaker with the top off! Sort of like the old lady who swallowed a fly ...

21. But I need it for the fresh sliced tomatos!
My kids freak when I sprinkle basil on them. They think it's some kind of giant green fruit fly!

12. I know people who kept a few small pieces of saltine cracker in
their salt shakers to absorb the moisture. I've used rice before and that seem to work, but our humidity isn't usually as high as 70%.

13. stop using iodized salt (Diamond crystal or Morton's)
switch to sea salt for table use & kosher salt for cooking. Neither of them seem to harden even in the humidity.

If you use about 10 grains of rice and keep it 1/3 - 1/2 full, you should have no problems. :hi:

22. you put little grains of rice in w. the salt in the shaker
this is almost the first thing they teach you when you move to new orleans so your salt will pour works great, haven't had a problem salting food in mumble-odd decades of living here the rice grains apparently must absorb any liquid
