OMG, I freaking HATE these words: BlackBerry and
"deliverable" (used as a noun). :nuke: :grr: I have sat in boring training sessions the past two days, and all fifteen people in the room besides me have BlackBerries (whoever called them CrackBerries was onto something!). Listening to fifteen CrackBerries go off within seconds of each other....with that annoying whining buzz and vibrating across the table...was just incredibly annoying and irritating to me! CrackBerries are optional at the company I work for, and I will not have one. Period. I have a very good cell phone and can access email on my laptop, so that's all I want. I don't get any life-or-death emails, so why would I want to be driven insane every couple of minutes checking on work email????

And using "deliverable" as a noun is FUCKING ANNOYING!!!! :grr: It's not a real word! It's just made-up bullshit like "multitasking" and "action item". :nuke: The next time I hear, "These are the deliverables for next meeting", I'm gonna have to get medieval on somebody's ass!

Ahhhhhhhhhh.... I feel much better now. :P This has been a Public Service Rant.

 :hi:

I was at a meeting about a month ago when some senior exec started answering his e-mail on his Crackberry. The Deputy Minister (his boss) was not amused about being ignored. The DM walked over to him, grabbed the Crackberry, threw it to the floor and stomped on it. He proceeded to ream his ass about paying attention at meetings. I just loved it!

BTW, my employer tried to hoist one of those little demon machines on me. I flatly refused. I already have a work issued celfone which gets switched off every day at 5:00 PM. I refuse to do their work on my time.

I work to live. Not the other way around.

20. I have a story for you.
I work in IT. We have a guy who hasn't used his computer in 9 years. He even still dictates to his assistant. He asked for a Blackberry because upper management requested it. Less than a week later, he got one of those fatal JVM errors that makes the device unusable. The guy went nuts and he stayed late until we got him a working device. He was flipping out. It was pretty a case study in Crackberry addiction.

21. Bullshit Bingo
Try playing this at your next meeting.

Q

1. Before (or during) your next meeting, seminar, or conference call, prepare your "Bullshit Bingo" card by drawing a square -- I find that 5" x 5" is a good size -- and dividing it into columns --five across and five down. That will give you 25 1-inch blocks.

2. Write one of the following words/phrases in each block:

Synergy
Strategic fit
Core competencies
Turbulent environment
Out of the box
Pushback
Bottom line
Revisit
Take that off-line
24/7
Out of the loop
Benchmark
Value-added
Proactive
Bandwidth
Win-win
Think outside the box
Fast track
Results-driven
Paradigm
Empower (or empowerment)
Knowledge base
At the end of the day
Touch base
Mindset
Client focus(ed) or Customer focus(ed)
Ballpark
Game plan
Scenario
Leverage
Cascade
Sequential or sequentially

3. Check off the appropriate block when you hear one of those words/phrases.

4. When you get five blocks horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, stand up and shout "BULLSHIT!"

Part of Speech: noun
Definition: something that is to be delivered according to agreement; by extension, a task that one is responsible for delivering

60. I'm sure. I was ranting last night when I started this thread.
I was really cranky after the bullshit business lingo irritation, and I rectified that by having a nice relaxing meal in Little Italy and drinking wine and a mojito. I calmed down a lot after that and only got irritated today at the "nimbility" reference. (See my post to RetroLounge above.)

But actually, I am] cranky because the airline missed its "deliverable"!

66. I currently use a Treo 700...
Though I don't use a Blackberry, I do however use a Treo 700.

As an event planner, I can't tell you enough how useful it is.

69. I know just how useful they can be. I don't have a problem with
the general use of one, because I know it can be very effective and a real timesaver. However, I object to the total and complete addiction that most of the people I work with (and other people I have witnessed) are into. They pounce on their CrackBerries at the instant they start doing their vibration dance across the table. :yoiks: They have a glazed, demented look in their eyes when that happens, and one of the women in the room must have checked her CrackBerry over a hundred times yesterday. Nothing earth-shattering, no life-or-death matters, just regular emails. I got mine when I plugged my laptop in last night, and I had no crisis-worthy business emails. :)
