1. You could try flapping your arms...
or a hot air balloon.

Or carry some medical body part as a courier...

2. Is it a nonstop?
That's way out of line if it has stops.......

My tickets to Ohio and back are around $350 with one plane change on the way out, and nonstop on the way home......

And I bought them about a month ago......from CheapTickets.com..

Weird......must be either the fact that you are nonstop, or the fact that you are this close to your departure date......

4. It depends on the popularity
of a route.

Your best bet is to look at other local airports--the bigger ones will be the cheapest.

Airlines pay for prime locations, and so there is always competition on the larger routes, keeping the prices lower. For smaller airports, only a handful of airlines might do the route, so it becomes more expensive.

Check out Expedia, Travelocity and places like Priceline which might have more information.

5. Run a search at Travelocity

I didn't know your flying dates, but I came up with $418. And it's even got a fare of $373 listed. I had August 18 and return on August 25. That's a big difference from $718!

I don't know if it will work, but here's a link to the search I ran:

10. Eugene. Not exactly Paris or Chicago.
Might be the ticketing problem.
Guess you'll have to get along w/o your Oregonian fix this Summer.

12. Sites to try
http://www.cheapflights.com

http://www.cheapair.com/

I used http://www.priceline.com a few years back.

Had to enter a credit card number and make offer on the total trip. Got a round trip ticket from Reno, NV to Alexandria, LA for $100. That was my offer, and I was giventhe ticket. Not a stand-by, but a confirmed trip ticket.
