How can there be such a thing as a Cracker Barrel flamewar?
Edited on Wed Aug-02-06 02:05 PM by jpgray
How!?!!?!!! This is the world I used to think I lived in:

Person 1: Fuck cracker barrel.
Person 2: I like cracker barrel!
Person 1: They have a history of discriminatory policies.
Person 2: Okay, I will take that into account in the future. Thanks.
Person 1: No, thank -you-. Lovely weather, isn't it?
Person 2: Why no, it's like Satan's asshole out there. But thanks again as well in addition to your last aforementioned thanks!

23. When my husband was in the hospital back in June,
a friend of mine made us chicken pot pie, something I had never eaten before. It was delicious, so since he loves Cracker Barrel and I am a good wife trying to help his recuperation, we go on Wednesdays for the pot pie. I think it is really good.

3. I see your point. Cracker Barrel- as a topic- doesn't come close to
the visciousness and explosive nature of, say, the Spaghetti Wars.

Do we break the spaghetti before putting it in the pot or don't we? I'd sooner enter the 9th circle of GD than I would flirt dangerously with a spaghetti thread. :scared:

50. Yes, "fun" is a large fraction of the importance of nonbroken spaghetti
but then there are the physics of sauce adherence to a forkful of spaghetti. For example, my father argues (weakly, IMO) that there is MORE sauce adherence to broken spaghetti because it also winds up covering the numerous broken ends. My argument, I supsect, pulverizes his:

Longer spaghetti does a much better job in gripping the sauce on a fork and integrate it into the forkful. For example, the whole strands are fewer on the fork but can neatly capture sauce into a forkful when wound and overlapped many times, as opposed to the broken strands which tend to "fling" sauce outward.

Thank you for recognizing this imporatant matter. :pals:

16. As Athanasius' chef said in the 4th century
Whosoever will be saved, before all things it is necessary that he hold the spaghetti cooking faith;
Which spaghetti except every one do keep whole and undefiled, without doubt he shall perish everlastingly.

In other words: don't break it!

52. I got a little choked up reading that. It's about faith.
Faith that the spaghetti will bend in the pot as it boils. Faith that one minute of spaghetti zen does not mean a radical change in the texture of a single strand. Faith that patience will lead to great reward.

When you make spaghetti for three kids, any shortcut is preferable and it's easier to break the spaghetti when you cook it then to let yours get cold while you cut everybody else's.

64. Neither do I; I work with the spaghetti- it requires love and tending.
I get the wrath of boiling-hot steam on my face sometimes, but I believe that in such cases, agony is a small price to pay. That the consequent "odd texture" of unbroken spaghetti is a result of it being half in, half out of the water for one minute (as opposed to cruelly broken and dumped) is an outrageous myth. This is why I give the strands small, frequent tamps downward as they boil. It's a truly satisfying experience.

They have signs up at the front door of every restaurant and on every menu proclaiming their policy.

They might be worth a second chance...that is, if you liked their food in the first place. I do, up to a point.

82. Interesting there are all these Cracker Barrel threads all of the sudden
I'd never stepped foot in a Cracker Barrel in all nearly 38 years. Then just this past Monday I ate there for both breakfast and dinner while my friends and I were on the trek back home from our trip.

So what's this about discriminatory policies?
