Okay, my husband went on a flyer and bought an LCD Widescreen

television tonight. (He's been saving up for a long time for it.) Anyway, when we hooked it up to the cable, we can only get the first twelve channels. We ran it through the auto channel finder and it could not find any channels above channel 13.

Help. Does anyone know what to do?

We don't have digital cable, but I don't think we would need that when we are getting the first twevle channels without it?

6. Careful ...

Your cable company will try to sell you HD digital. If you get an unscrupulous salesperson (and everyone is a salesperson now, even the technicians ... part of the "sales culture") this person may even suggest you *must* have digital to get the channels.

You won't get HD on your cable channels without digital, but you can get most of the same channels cable is currently offering over the air. (This isn't really cable's fault. There's not just a ton of HD out there right now compared to standard broadcast, and even some of the "HD" channels only broadcast certain programs in HD.) Depending on your interests, there are a couple channels in HD that you need digital cable/satellite to view that a lot of people like, such as ESPN in HD and Discovery. Fox sports also has an HD channel, but not a lot of cable companies offer it because it's a Murdoch (DirecTV) controlled thing.

Anyway ... the problem is a setting with your television. See if a tech support number for the television exists, and call that first. I'd call the cable company *last* because it's not really their responsibility to program your new television, and they may even charge you for it. As mentioned, they will certainly try to turn it into a sales call.

5. It is not set to receive cable. Read the manual.

It is looking only for the airwave rabbit ear channels. Push "menu" on the remote control and check out the options.

I'll bet your VCR has been flashing "12:00" for years!

11. Only since my son broke the remote that allowed one to set it.

Before that, I had it set fine. And reset it everytime the power went off and back one.

You are right, it was set for airial not cable. But this remote is hard to use and the option I wanted was abbreviated to the point that I didn't know what it meant.

It took a while, but I did figure it out.
