Complaint about Retail Stores
I received an ad in the mail yesterday. It had a fairly good sale on cokes, diet cokes, etc.

I went to the store.

There was a huge stack of the 12 packs on sale, but what I wanted, the diet cokes, was on the bottom.

They didn't alternate.

I told a worker guy that was walking by that I wanted to get some of the diet cokes, but they were on the bottom,,,,,,,,,,,he said.........

"uh. I see'em right there!"

No offer to help. He disappeared.

I got diet dr peppers instead for a few nickels more.

Why have a sale, and not have the merchandise available to purchase prior to everyone else buying the regular corn syrup cokes?

Retail sucks to work in, and it sucks big time to shop in.

1. The clerk should have dug it out for you.
I would have; and in the stores I worked in, any decent employee would have done so.

Maybe he'll be fired soon, or get his attitude "adjusted" by management.

2. That sucks
Stupid way to merchandise. At the store where I work, the actual employees don't build displays of the national brand products like Coke and Pepsi or Nabisco. Those companies have their own reps come in and build them and anyone who'd build a display where you could not reach some of the product is an idiot. However, the employee you asked about it should have helped you get some. Unfortunately, companies are finding it easier and easier to pay employees less and consequently, the employees don't feel obligated to do much for their 8 bucks an hour.

My company has managed to screw their old time employees (like myself) who had managed to get a decent union contract in years past. Our last contract negotiation was a disaster and resulted in a two tier wage system whereby the company can hire new employees who make less money and who get less frequent raises. This means they're systematically working to get rid of their higher paid employees (like me) and thereby have more money to pay their CEO and executives so they don't have to give up their stock options and private jets.

Bitter? Me? Nah.....

3. How long have you been there?
It sounds like things are changing there the same as everywhere - that is, for the worse.

I didn't want to hassle the worker who didn't give a damn, because he's not getting paid $8 and hour. He's getting paid $6 and hour.

No one there ever gets a raise. Ever.

4. Shitty way to palletize freight, if you ask me
Someone else pointed out that companies like Pepsi and Coke will send a vendor rep in to set the display for a sale like this.

Well...in this situation, the vendor would have built the pallet at the warehouse, stretchwrapped it and delivered it ready to drop on the floor.
