Who are your favorite singers of the last 10 years?
By this, I mean released their first album 10 years ago or sooner. Focus on their voice for this topic.

My favorite vocalists of the last 10 years include:

Michelle Branch
A.C. Newman
Andrea Corr
Nina Gordon
Avril Lavigne
Neko Case
Josh Ritter
Jack White
Kelly Clarkson
Pink
Bonnie McKee
Holly Brook
Both members of The Pierces
Both singers in Fountains Of Wayne
Lisa Walker and Chuck Cleaver from Wussy
Natalie Maines
Noelle LeBlanc from Damone
Jenny Lewis
Joseph Arthur
Miranda Lambert
Lee Ann Womack
Alicia Keys
Brad Paisley
Allison Moorer (to further give balance to the country Repukes here)
Tracyanne Campbell from Camera Obscura
Anna Nalick
Jim Adkins from Jimmy Eat World
Hope Partlow
Aslyn
Amy Millan
Caithlin De Marrais from Rainer Maria
Toni Braxton
Cindy Alexander
Kristi McClave from Hope 7
Amy Rigby
Brandi Carlile
The Veronicas
David Gray
Z. Berg from The Like
Stacie Rose
Sufjan Stevens

I'll stop there. The thing is, I also love the music from all of them! Hope Partlow's voice is a little better than her songs are now, but she's very promising. The opposite would be Vanessa Carlton, who has good but a bit over-dramatic vocals to go with her very enjoyable music.

Maybe I haven't listened enough, but IMO no male R&B singers equal the brilliance of Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, or R. Kelly (in his prime.)

He will be missed.

Thom started a bit before 1996, but still a great choice. :hi:

I'll also add Ingrid Michaelson. I have no list in front of me, but I just bought her album Girls & Boys.

6. Also..
I've only heard Susan Cagle in the live setting, but if she's that good there, she should make the list.

I'm sure I left out quite a few.

I like Norah's voice and music. Not sure her voice is a fave of mine, but Joni Mitchell's voice also isn't a favorite of mine, and I'm a big Joni fan.

and I also love that she's just as good live as in the studio.

And don't get me started on Avril Lavigne. Oh, my *fans self*

11. I know, many people don't like either one's voice
But I love both. Alanis always was spine-tingling to me in her own way.

13. Today..
I discovered a singer named Sandi Thom - she really has a knock out voice! I'm very anxious for her album after hearing a few songs at her web site. One of her songs is called "I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker (With Flowers in My Hair)" - it's not a punk song, but it had punk cool. In the way Sinead O'Connor does.

Joanna also sounds great, and I've already pre-ordered her CD.

The singers in Lillix have grown to the point where they would make this list, too.

Although I enjoy the music of Brie Larson and Cheyenne Kimball, their voices aren't quite ready for this list yet. They both have plenty of spirit, and that's a big positive.
