What was your favorite candy as a kid?
I'm sitting here chowing down on a box of Sugar Babies and am waxing nostalgic. I even Googled "old time candy" and found this site. I'm planning to order a bunch of my favorites!

As for me, I loved Charms Sweet and Sour Pops, Chick-O-Stick, Jawbusters, salt water taffy, wax bottles, Slo-Pokes, Sugar Daddy, Pixie Sticks - it's a wonder I have any teeth left!

9. I remember BlackJack, Teaberry, and Clove gums too.
My father always had a few packs. He chewed them constantly during Lent when he gave up smoking. Every once in a while he'd share with the kids. He was amused that I liked the Clove gum but then I liked bold flavors even as a baby.

I bought these gums recently when they hit the market again. My too cool teen nephew loved them.

that had 50 or so individual pieces of chewable candy on a stretchable thread that you could wear as a necklace. Although your neck did tend to turn colors and get sticky. :D

Also, I loved Pop-Rocks, and I don't know if this qualifies as "Candy", but I used to love Wacky Packages.

68. Chamoy - salty dried plums
I've always preferred salt to sugar, so these were my favorite snacks as a kid growing up in Mexico.

Perhaps this is why, at age 50, I still have all my teeth including wisdom teeth.

Identical to the jars in which crack seed is merchandised in Hawaii, these are salty-sweet-anisey derivatives of the Cantonese snack food that Hawaiians call crack seed. In these same malls, often as not, there are stalls selling traditional Mexican sweets. Among the peanut marzipan, the amaranth brittle and the wafers filled with cajeta, a kind of condensed milk, are little plastic packets filled with salty dried plums. They are labelled chamoy. I looked up the word 'chamoy' in several dictionaries and asked Mexican friends what it meant, but to no avail. Then it dawned on me. 'Chamoy' is none other than the Mexican rendering of the Cantonese words see mui, the original term for crack seed. Whether crack seed came with the Acapulco Galleon, as E. N. Anderson has suggested, or with later Cantonese workers, it is now firmly ensconced as a traditional Mexican snack with its own hybrid name.
