Is it illegal to have a MySpace page that isn't a freaking mess?

Seriously. I've never clicked on to a single MySpace page without it being total chaos. Uncontrollable music, badly tiled background images, colored text over those images you can't read, links here, embedded videos there....They're a nightmare. I've never seen one that was well laid out and not just total drek.

Is it impossible to make a MySpace page that is thoughtfull and well laid out? Is it illegal? Are MySpace users imbeciles when it comes to information design? What's the deal?

That's why some of us resort to premades. I have one and it's quite nice. Really, trying to make on one your own is stupid and only the really clever can pull it off.

mine is pretty normal - and my band's site doesn't play on load. My wife's Myspace site is nice too, but she's a designer by trade.

I hate the ugly backgrounds, unreadble layout, and huge video loads on most pages too...

Your band's isn't bad. I particularly like that the sound didn't automatically start, and that I could actually read the text.

Some of those pages I swear they try and make it as chaotic as possible and I just don't get it.

I mean I haven't seen your site, but what's the point of something that is really difficult to read, that breaks out so wide horizontally that you have to scroll all over the place, that has yellow words on background images of daisy's so the only way to read the words is to highlight them....

What's the point of that drek? Is it just to make it a challenge? Is there some cachet to having a chaotic site?

I just don't get it.

15. Yeah that's part of it I really don't get

Supposedly we have a generation coming about now, that totally uses MySpace, yet for the most part can't design a web page worth a damn. People blame it on Myspace, but there are ones that are fine. It's when people start mucking with the templates we're thrown back a decade or more.

Seriously, most of them remind me of people's personal web pages a decade ago when everyone had tiled backgrounds, animated gifs everywhere, midi music...same shit, different technology. Now it's flash, youtube videos, and mp3s. I guess taste and design ability is rare and people just abuse whatever technologies they're given.

Some people have simple, good backgrounds and a different font but not a lot else. Most people, though, just start clicking on shit to add, don't turn off the music (so you have to push play to hear it).

I especially hate the people who plaster picture all over their page. YOU HAVE A FUCKING PICTURE PAGE FOR FUCK'S SAKE. USE IT.
