Do your animals speak to you?
Mine just did. At least, one of them did. The spoiled cat one did.

I went to see him and ask if he wanted back outside.

He just gave me a look. You know the look. Then he yawned, and said something that I didn't understand because he said it so fast.

I said, okay. You can stay inside if you want, but please try to express yourself more clearly in the future.

What do your animals say to you, if anything?

1. My cat is hopelessly co-dependant.
She sits on the scales in my bathroom and cries and cries, threatening me with anorexia if she doesn't get enough attention.

My other cat has listened to too much gangsta rap and watched too much boxing. He likes to run between my legs whenever I walk anywhere yowling and warning other people off.

2. Well...
My eldest cat, (who is no longer with me  ) used to say "I want out". Couldn't quite get the consonents, so it came out "AAAAWWWAAAOOOWWWUUU"! and he only said that when he expected me to open the door.
They all have certain chirps and vocalizations they use at different times when they want different things...does that count?

Starlingphone just learned to say Xen's name and wakes us every morning by whispering it over and over and over and over...

6. OMG Mosey
every so often I do a thorough cleaning of the cat box - dump out all the litter and scrub. Anyways, I had done this and a little later my Clancy was rubbing on me being uncharacteristically vocal, in an almost frantic manner. I kept saying WHAT'S WRONG and he persisted, so I was saying YOU HAVE FOOD AND WATER, WHAT DO YOU WANT? Then I figured it out - I had forgotten to refill the box with litter. :O

7. so much so that I sometimes ask them to be quiet
2 cats (3 actually, but one hates the other two and never comes out of the attic and is fairly quiet), one dog, and a sun conure. It's a FREAKING ZOO! I'm sure my neighbors love the conure in the morning - to properly imagine him, scream as loud as you can, then imagine that twice as loud and about 3 octaves higher....

Let me put it this way; I was working in the yard one day wearing a T-shirt with a chimp on it, and some neighbor kids were walking by and heard the bird (who was inside the closed house), and asked me if they could see the monkey. At first i was confused what the heck they were talking about....

I love them, but I seriously sometimes wonder if the neighbors are planning a cook-out, or if we're driving the property values down (although my 'hood is pretty down already...)

the cats follow us around and yell at us too.

this is why we don't have children - I can put the bird in a cage with a blanket over it, and lock the cats in the basement if I have to.

8. They do! The boy dog clearly says "out" when he needs to go out!
They have different barks, sounds, growls, etc. for different messages to us. And, they understand everything we say! We have to spell in front of them: i-c-e-c-r-e-a-m, etc. I read once that dogs can understand about 200 words. I never counted, but they are very perceptive. Of course they are always with us and anticipate our every move!

9. Yes 'cheese"
My little cocker spaniel mix (who's no longer with us)
used to sit by the refridgerator in the morning and say 'CHEEEEEESE'
(in a high-pitched whine).
Then I'de give him a piece of cheese, and he would be fine till the next day.
So cute.

10. that is so funny, my dog is so smart
long story short, back 8 years ago when my lad was a "teen" I put in a big flower bed with yummy stinky dirt. the next day my boy had a field day with that dirt, to the point he left chest prints where he dived into it.

when I saw the damage I went ballistic and sternly told him about it, fenced it and yelled at him if he got anywhere near it. we called it the "Pit of Doom" and he avoided it like it was red hot for the life of the planter.

today (8 years later mind you) I was talking about the herb garden I was going to make off the deck with the old "garden tub" we just pulled out of the master bath. I said "it might be another Pit of Doom" and my boy got that guilty look on his face and the smile he gets when he knows he screwed up and feels bad about it. he gave a little "rohw" and started thumping his tail

what a hoot he is!

13. He never shuts up.
He talks with his mouth full, while he's taking a crap, in his sleep, to the moths on the porch screen....it never ends. He was never like this til he travelled with us for 2 months and lived out of motel rooms.

I think he says "fuck off" a lot.
