1. I think it was Set The Controls for the Heart of the Sun
Edited on Mon Jul-31-06 08:05 PM by MoseyWalker
Pink Floyd, of course

My vote for other didn't show up, but when I went back to try to do it again, it said I had already voted. so. Add one to "other" when the poll is finished.

I haven't heard of Soft Machine. But if they're Pink Floydy and more tripped out sounding. I'd probably like them.

I'll check them out next time I buy more music.. :)

The most like Floyd (and that's early Floyd) would be their first two albums. Anything after that is going to be jazz fusiony, with mixed results.

Not exactly classic stoner/doom, but definitely psychedelic, in an eccentric way.

Just a few great "stoner metal" bands. These guys listened to waaaay too much Black Sabbath when they were kids, and I, for one, am forever grateful that they did.

If you've heard that song by Wolfmother, you've got a basic idea of what these bands sound like, but they are all much better than the MTV stuff like Wolfmother and The Sword.

39. That's special.
I would have thought that that particular album is far too brooding for a normal stoning. Unless, of course, you're taking LSD and want to have a bad trip.

Not that I'm a stoner, but if I were to be one, I'd say I'd use "Meddle" by the same band- especially Echoes.

69. Atlantis?
The continent of Atlantis was an island
which lay before the great flood
in the area we now call the Atlantic Ocean.
So great an area of land, that from her western shores
those beautiful sailors journeyed
to the South and the North Americas with ease,
in their ships with painted sails.

To the East Africa was a neighbour, across a short strait of sea
miles.
The great Egyptian age is but a remnant of The Atlantian
culture.
The antediluvian kings colonised the world
All the Gods who play in the mythological dramas
In all legends from all lands were from fair Atlantis.
Knowing her fate, Atlantis sent out ships to all corners of the
Earth.
On board were the Twelve:
The poet, the physician, the farmer, the scientist,
The magician and the other so-called Gods of our legends.
Though Gods they were -
And as the elders of our time choose to remain blind
Let us rejoice and let us sing and dance and ring in the new
Hail Atlantis!
Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be,
Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be,
Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be.
Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be,
Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be.
My antediluvian baby, oh yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah,
I wanna see you some day
My antediluvian baby, oh yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah,
My antediluvian baby,
My antediluvian baby, I love you, girl,
Girl, I wanna see you some day.
My antediluvian baby, oh yeah
I wanna see you some day, oh
My antediluvian baby.
My antediluvian baby, I wanna see you
My antediluvian baby, gotta tell me where she gone
I wanna see you some day
Wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up, oh yeah
Oh glub glub, down down, yeah

Celia Of The Seals

Should you wander this land to the North,
And few seldom do,
Should you follow the song of the gull
To enchanted western isles,
Coax a fisherman to take you out
Where the silky seals are seen,
Hear the stories that they tell about
The maiden who is their queen,
The maiden who is their queen.

Celia of the seals,
She knows just how they feel,
Celia of the seals.
"Voyna, voyna, voyna, voyna voyna vay"
"Voyna, voyna, voyna, voyna voyna vay"

Seal hunters are not brave and bold,
They murder her poor wee seals
And cut off their skins to be sold,
Cursed be he who deals.
There's no reason for this slaughtering,
They're left on the rocks to bleed
He's not a man who does this thing,
It's a cruel and a heartless deed,
A cruel and a-heartless deed.

Celia of the seals,
She knows just how they feel,
Celia of the seals.

Celia of the seals,
Celia of the seals,
She knows just how they feel,
Celia of the seals,
Celia of the seals,
Celia of the seals,
"Voyna, voyna, voyna, voyna voyna vay"
"Voyna, voyna, voyna, voyna voyna vay

yes.

wow. long time since i heard that name.

i remember at least two years ago, some radio station in chicago had an overnight (i think 2-4 am) where they played progressive/drug music.

the announcer came on after a few songs and said "that is probably one of the few times you will ever hear hawkwind and tyrannosaurus rex back to back on chicago radio."

50. EXCELLENT CHOICE!!!
My god, I thought I was the only person in the world who likes that song. Usually when I mention it, people go "huh?" The extended psychedelic improv section more than makes up for the incredibly sappy lyrics. Some of Hendrix's very best work.

These days, I like my trippy music a bit lighter and less grungy:

80. I love 1983 - always have
:-). It never gets any radio play and I have lived all over the US. I have heard "Hey Joe" more times than I can count though and it is my least favorite Hendrix song.

63. I think "Burning of the Midnight Lamp" would be appropriate
I've never smoked weed, however, so what do I know?

72. voodoo child - 16 minute version
i float in liquid gardens
in jupiter's sulphur mines,
way down by the methane seas.

THAT is the coolest lyric i have heard woven into a blues song.

79. It's been a long time since I've smoked pot but
Voodoo Child and 1983 always get me high when I listen to them. I get lost in the lyrics and the music :-).

61. Get Isao Tomita's album of Debussy's music done on sythesizers
If you've ever heard the credit music for the PBS show "Star Gazer" with Jack Horkheimer that's the Arabesque from the album. The name of the album is "Snowflakes are Dancing"

66. Black Sabbath's 'Planet Caravan' always sets me in the
right mood. Also Muddy Waters' 'Champaign and Reefer' and the entire album 'Eat a Peach' by the Allman Brothers. And once in a while the trippy shit on the first few Meat Puppets albums.
