Question for DU lesbians
Edited on Mon Jul-31-06 07:56 PM by sbj405
Are you offended by the term "dyke"? I thought it was derogatory, but it seems to have been embraced by lesbians (we have a Dyke March here, Dyke TV, etc.). Just curious.

1. Dykes on Bikes!
Kinda like folks have embraced the word "queer". Also depends on the context and who's saying it.

2. It depends on how it's used.
If a gay person (or a known straight ally), uses dyke, queer, fag, it's okay. If some freeptard yells 'dyke' at me over my bumperstickers or something, then it's not okay.

3. That's what I figured.
Just curious whether it was ever ok for a straight person to use it.

5. It's like the "N" word
If you are one you can always use it, close friends often can use it, casual friends might be able to get away with it but it's off limits to others.
