6. NO!
And I'm hopping mad about it...

I left Illinois for NYC and have discovered that they don't do:

1. Italian Beef
2. Chicago Dogs
3. Deep dish pizza

I've nearly cried myself to sleep every night for the past 4 years on account...

22. How could you fail to mention saganaki?
Yeah, it's not from Greece, it's from Chicago, and how can you possibly go wrong with fried goat cheese set on fire at the table?

14. Wasn't there a guy around 23rd St. that had Chicago dogs?
Ordered the dogs from Chi-town and everything.

Clearly you're not defining the franchised Uno as "deep dish pizza"; there's one on Columbus opposite the museum, and doubtless others around.

17. Uno's does not count
I believe there is one place with Chicago Dogs...but it's on like 34th or someplace, and I work way downtown so it's not really convenient.

I've also heard rumors that there is a place with something like Italian Beef waaaaaayyyy out in Brooklyn...but I haven't had to the time to go on an expedition like that since I heard of it. (Plus, if I'm gonna travel for like 2 hours to get some Italian Beef, I might as well just fly back to Chicago!)

18. Whoever says NYC Delis are the best is full of shit.
But that's typically the case for anyone who says anything of NYC is the best.

21. My condolences.
I also heard that those heathen infidel New Yorkers pie cut their thin crust pizzas instead of a proper square cut. What is wrong with some people?

8. You want sweet or hot?
We have Italian beef--but then this is the Chicago area.

I never had Italian beef anywhere else.

Chicago style hot giardinierra is the most godlike substance ever created by man.

9. Sweet or hot? Wet or dry?
I hunt down Italian beef everytime I hit Chicago. They don't do it here in Detroit that I know of.

steak? (or is is Roast Beef?)
Roasted peppers and ?

It must not be actually italian because they'd make it in every kitchen in North Providence, and I'd have heard of it around here.

20. It's a Chicago specialty.
The beef is "wet roasted" in an au jus with Italian seasonings, then the beef is thinly sliced and cooked some more in the Italian au jus. Then you take an Italian white bread (although I have Italian friends who insist that French bagettes work better), cut it open, give it a quick dunk in the au jus, the slobber the beef on. The piece de resistence is either sweet peppers (bell peppers cooked in the same au jus) or hot peppers (a Chicago style giardinierra with serrano chile peppers).

It's pretty much a heart attack on a plate (as are most Chicago specialty foods.... saganaki, anyone?), but it tastes so good!
