Advice needed re:buying our first digital camera ....Very ignorant on the

subject, but we really need to buy one tomorrow (going on vacation in the next week).

We have a relatively new Dell computer and printer, if that makes any difference.

In the past, DU has given me great advice on picking quality products. We're not looking for "top of the line", but neither do we want something cheap-just a model thats easy to use, good quality, and dependable.

1. Sensor quality means more than megapixel quantity.

And check into the level of JPEG compression (6:1 is the most I'd go for; try for something that uses 4:1 and retain quality for enlargements and overall detail). Pros would consider TIF or RAW formats too.
