I need hair advice from people who are good at that kind of thing
I've had long hair most all of my life. I've cut it short twice and both times I absolutely hated it, so generally I prefer to wear it long. But it's hot right now and I'm sweating like mad and I'm wondering if just maybe the two feet of insulation on my head and back have something to do with that ;) and I'm toying with the idea of cutting it shorter or thinning it out.

Any advice on what sort of a cut would look nice and reasonably feminine with the shape of my face? Keep in mind that I have very thick hair and that it won't curl or anything like that. Or if you think I shouldn't, or that there isn't a short cut that would flatter me, tell me that too. I haven't made up my mind either way. This is what I look like currently (crappy pic, but I only had a few where my hair isn't tied back)

1. I can picture you with a Joan Jett type of haircut...
Like this one:

But maybe you wouldn't want the bangs to be as long as hers. :hi:

4. When did I start thinking
Joan Jett was sexy? I completely missed that moment, but there it is.

Hey. Why not? But I do think bangs are sexy/attractive.

17. I've always thought Joan Jett was hot.
And so is LeftyMom. So the Joan Jett 'do would certainly work, IMHO.

2. If you want to keep it long
you could just get it thinned and layered. It wont be as cool as a shorter style, but it'll have more shape and less weight/heat

3. How about
Edited on Wed Jul-19-06 06:59 PM by brook
cutting it so it's just at your chin line...'n slightly shorter at the back? I wish I could post a picture of what I mean -it's almost all one length and is a simple, classic look that turns under slightly and 'caresses'your cheek/chin. It does take someone good to cut it though. I went through 3 or 4 hairstylists when I moved here before I found the right one. The well done cut holds it's shape, so if you have to go 6/7 weeks between cuts, it still looks good.

You've got such a pretty face -show it off!

Oh, lookee here!

7. I second this advice
I think the cut brook described or maybe a nice blunt cut that goes to the chin or a little below that would look really nice. It would look sharp and sophisticated, it's not a huge pain to deal with, and you could still tie it back if you wanted to.

5. I think shoulder length hair would look great on you!
I had long hair for years.
until december 2005
You look like you have nice shoulders and a shorter hairstyle would exploit that
as for styles..I wish i knew

6. you have a great head of hair
for a layered cut. It is thick & has body. If you have the stylist cut the long layers shoulder length with shorter layers, it will give you the flexibility to pull it back when it's really hot, but it will also take advantage of the natural waves of your hair and really look great blown out or even wet styled (wash & wear) I think it would really flatter your face.

8. I think you would look smashing in a chin-length bob.

Maybe some longish, wispy-kinda bangs,too.

I agree with what brook says though about finding someone good to get the cut just right.

9. You're lucky with your face shape
you can wear any length. I like the choppy, rocker chick cuts that are messy and wild. Or you could get a shattered bob like Meg Ryan. I don't think you'll like your hair shorter if it's too conservative. The cut will have to have movement and texture.

10. Instead of cutting
You mentioned your hair being tied back -- do you ever use hairtoys? Jaw clips, hair sticks, hair forks, and the like? They're certainly not as effortless as having a shorter haircut, but there are lots of things out now that are fairly easy to use and can quickly get the hair off your shoulders. I have long hair too, which I love, but it does get annoying in the summer to have it down all the time, so I have a stash of hairtoys in my bathroom.

12. You look great with long hair
but I understand the desire to cut it when it's hot out.

I would suggest a chin-length bob, short in back, maybe a little razored too.

13. I don't think you should cut it, perfectly fine though that may look.
Why don't you wear it up? It's so easy and your face would handle it perfectly. Pull it back, twist it a bit starting at the bottom, and then use plastic clips - one or two - to fasten the hair to your head, leaving a tail to cascade out at the top. It takes literally less than one minute, eliminates the heat factor and looks great. A thought.

15. Maybe you could just cut it to your shoulders
and then layer it like hell. Maybe add some side bangs to it...yeah, that'd look really cute. You have my face shape so it's really easy for me to think of good looking haircuts for you... :)

18. This one would look great on you

If my hair wasn't so fine I would have that cut. You have enough thickness to pull it off. It would look cute even a longer, if you didn't want to go that short.

19. Considering your face shape, and the fact you want to keep some type...
...of length, the first thing I thought of was Stacy London. You both have similar hair color, and face structure...

20. I think a bob would be adorable...
Chin length, maybe a little bit longer.

Or just leave it long...it's beautiful. Mine's kinda long-ish and I always regret it when I cut it so, in the summer when I start to get tempted, I french braid it. Keeps it back, looks good, it's cool and I can tuck the braid under if I want it All off my neck.
