car help...:(
Like an idiot...I took off all the wires on my distributor cap, on my 1989 gmc vandura, its a 350...and I can't remember where the wires went to...so, can any car mechanic, or master googler, help me out? Sorry, I can't seem to find diddley squat...What I'm looking for in particular, is a diagram, which shows which wire goes where...thanks...

.... it shows the firing order and the number of each cylinder. I assumed the 5.7L engine, which you should verify by checking that you have a "K" somewhere in the middle of your VIN number (around the 10th digit/letter).

To use this you will have to figure out which position is cylinder 1 (on the rotor), if you can do that you can get the rest from this diagram...

3. Check your public library
In case the previous poster's link didn't help. My library provides online access to comprehensive car wiring diagrams

4. Unless they've changed it

the firing order for small-block Chevy engines (which would include GMC) is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. That's a clockwise rotation, btw.

But that doesn't help you if you don't know the no. 1 index. It's usually one of the two distributor towers at the front of the cap (nearest the carb). You can try both, and if it starts, you've got it.

Cranking the engine with the cables in the wrong towers won't hurt anything. It simply won't start.

Edit: Almost forgot. The cylinders are numbered 1-3-5-7 front to rear on the right (driver's side) bank and 2-4-6-8 on the left.
