Phoenix Residents Praise Military, Critical of Bush
Edited on Mon Dec-15-03 11:49 AM by ZombyWoof
Folks, I don't live in Phoenix, but it is heavily GOP, and if THEY can see through Bush, I think there is hope yet we can unseat the dimwitted fucktarded fartknocker yet. This is too late for LBN, and I didn't want my rant about Bush subjected to GD posting rules.

Read these juicy excerpts:

Phoenix residents praise military, critical of Bush

By BETH DeFALCO
Associated Press Writer

While Arizonans cheered the news Sunday that Saddam Hussein had been captured, few gave much credit to President Bush.

"Bush got lucky," said Allen Vertongen, 48, of Phoenix, as he smoked a cigarette outside a downtown Phoenix coffee shop. "They should have been able to catch (Saddam) without the loss of so many lives."

In Phoenix, many people praised the military's accomplishment and some said they were relieved to know U.S. forces were capable of accomplishing their mission.

But the praise didn't extend to the president, whom many here on Sunday continually criticized.

Cynthia Rena was surprised to hear the news that Hussein had been captured, but was mostly unimpressed.

"I think it's beside the point," the 29-year-old Rena said.

"I think we went to Iraq because daddy couldn't get Saddam, so now that his son is in office, he can."

-snip-

:bounce: Saddam is little more than a bearded plastic turkey!

2. I don't think Phoenix is that heavily GOP
Maybe it was but the Phoenix area was hit hard with job losses and layoffs, I know people who have 2 degrees and can't find a job that pays over $10 an hour. There are lots of people still finding work, my mom is an example. She was making a little over 16 dollars an hour was layed off about a year ago, she did find work but she is only making 10 dollars an hour. That is a huge drop off in income, there are alot of people like her. Plus I know ALOT! who voted for Bush who will be voting for the Democratic Candidate simply because of the economy.

7. Right now Phoenix benefits a bit due to growth and a small
AZ population..but as with all fast growing cities, they will feel the pinch since their last governor created so many loopholes for businesses.

The suburbs of Phoenix ARE heavily GOP - ever take a gander at the Phoenix newspaper, the Arizona Republic? Since it is a large city, it has its share of moderates and liberals, but quite a slice of reactionary old-timers and major Republicans too.

This article is from Flagstaff's paper, much more moderate in content, and the city has a sizeable progressive community.

I consider Arizona a swing state with a fair amount of moderates and liberals, but there are still MANY extreme Republicans, and lots of libertarians. Clinton won the state in '96, but Bush Sr got it in '92, and Chimpy in '00. Governor Napolitano won capturing the middle, because the Repub who ran was too much of a nutball for even mainline Repubs. This is a state that varies between governors like Evan Mecham and Bruce Babbitt. Also, consider our two Senators, John McCain and John Kyl, not exactly liberals, and only one Democrat in Congress.

Phoenix is less likely to have Bush critics than either Tucson or Flagstaff, I will tell you that, but Arizona usually leans Republican.
