3. No, I'm really a snob.
Especially about things like books, movies and restaurants. I care about appearances.

7. I've always looked at that as up to others to decide.
It's a judgement call on the part of other people. I don't think we can use that term to categorize ourselves. That would be weird. :hi:

9. while i appreciate your diplomatic reply, many feel with sufficient...
internal justification that they are not privy, nor may have any desire to be attune with the thoughts & feelings of others...my further sense is that while yet others again may think of them as 'self starters', internally, they, themselves, are passing a thought or two as to their 'being good with' being a snob, though they may not actually use the term...

much of american advertising campaigns are predicated upon snobbery, one up-man/woman-ship & keeping up with or surpassing the Jone's next door; and that operative is snobbery, vanity; but no-less than self image imo it's a powerful selling tool

:hi:

8. I am a grammar snob and a baseball snob . . .
I couldn't contain my snort of derision a few weeks ago at a Minor League Baseball game. A young woman in front of us was explaining to her friend that they get the speed of each pitch from a microchip embedded in the ball. :eyes:

I don't consider myself a snob. I don't think most people would consider me a snob unless they're the types who consider the fact that I'm a quiet person to be a form of snobbery on my part.

I understand snobs about as much as I understand people who get into things just because they're popular. IMHO people should like what they find appealing, not just like things because the elite, the experts, the critics, the "cool kids", are into them. If a person's taste just happens to generally align with the "snobs'" taste, that's one thing, but in my experience there seem to usually be other factors dictating this taste (generally, wanting to be considered above others for their particular taste, etc.)

EDITED for clarity

19. Depends on how one defines snobbery.
I always take it to mean looking down on those who are different.

My tastes are closely to being universally high-brow; but I don't think that this makes me any better than anybody else, thus I don't consider myself to be a snob.

Many others would look at my classical music collection, my reading list, my wine, my eating habits, my clothes and general appearance and would immediately categorise me as a snob.

32. I don't think so, but others think I am
Basically I dislike most aspects of mass American culture, so that gets me the snob label. I don't like reality TV, televised sports, Budweiser, hot dogs, 'country cooking', trucks, NASCAR, etc. I don't look down on people who do like those things, but I just don't like them myself. And apparently not liking what "most" people like is enough to get the snob label.

Give me wine and brie any day over Bud and Velveeta. :P If that makes me a snob, so be it.
