Tribal tattoos look SO dated
What were people thinking?

Its a pointy, abstract pattern with no meaning to 99.9% of people who get them.

Why then?

Especially the lower back and arm circle tattoos.

1. I have one on my ankle...
and it means something. I got it while in the Peace Corps.

I hate to think that people see me and think I look ridiculous. Although, I guess I don't really care.

3. What does it mean to you?
I guess I just don't understand how a generic, spiky band is personal.

Or is yours different?

4. I guess it's tribal...
when you say 'spiky' and 'generic' I wonder if mine fits that category. It has a whale-tail and repeating waves and a symbol used by Tongans (and many others). I'll get you a picture.

It's art for starters. And a reminder that I will always be a little Tongan now - in my heart anyways. And that I have family there forever. It symbolizes a great learning event in my life - one that helped formulate who I am today.

But let me go get that pic... maybe it's not tribal??

7. I like that one
It looks personal and meaningful.

I was referring to the big, spiky ones that WAY too many people are sporting.

Where did you do Peace Corps?

2. Because they kind of look cool.
They just do. The only reason I don't have one of those is because it would have no meaning to me and I kind of believe a tattoo should have some kind of meaning (or at least a cool story) behind it.

9. I knew a guy who put a smerf tattoo on his body every time he got some $$.
He had a whole smerf baseball on his back with a smerf at every position. Swear to God. It was quite hysterical

10. Pardon me, but did you mean "Smurf?"
And that is really, very odd about your friend!

I still have a huge Smurf collection hidden away.
