This right-winger writes, "Let's take some examples of what is patriotic and what isn't (in my opinion):

Unpatriotic: wishing for the economy to sink so the President of the opposing party doesn't get reelected."

The latter isn't necessarily unpatriotic. Look at the big picture: If you know the Republicans are going to lower the boom anyway - on far more than the economy - then it may make sense to wish for a little bad news before an election. To put it another way, suppose the economy really does improve over the next few months, and we join the Repugs in cheering, then Bush gets reselected and drives the economy down farther than before AND slashes unemployment and workers' benefits again, AND... well, you get the picture.
