None of my USB ports are working. I have Windows XP with all the latest upgrades but just today my USB ports all stopped working. There are three on the front of my HP and two in the back. I just can't figure out what to do. If you have any ideas, please let me know.
Check WinXP's device manager to see if the USB drivers are functioning okay (little yellow triangles with "!" in them... or big red "X"'s are not good at all.)
Possibly check the BIOS and ensure USB support is enabled.
I can think of two other possibilities:
1. Check for viruses and spyware
2. Ensure XP is activated. (more WPA crap...) But this one is the least of your worries, by far.
7. I have isolated the problem to my Iriver Mp3 player
Apaprently it is screwing up the USB drive. It isn't working right either, although I have reinstalled the firmware on numerous occasions. Strangely, it works perfectly well on my laptop.
