Poll question: Have You Ever Cheated In The "Express" Lane At The Grocery Store?
Edited on Wed Jul-12-06 04:30 PM by arwalden
You know... even when the sign says 12 items or less, you put your 18 items on the belt?

1. Once, but it wasn't really cheating....
I had to go to the grocery store on the way to work, and at 7:50 AM, only one register was open---the express lane. I had to get stuff for a party at work, and I was the only one in line at the only register open. I had ten items instead of the limit of 8. The cashier didn't mind. Sue me. :D

7. I'm really a nice guy! Honest!
It's just that...the express lane should be just that.

It's like...waiting 20 minutes for a Big Mac at McDonalds.

That is, if I still went to McDonald's. :-)

4. No, to do so would be a most foul abomination and make me unworthy of life

6. For those who voted the third option...
Most checkers have to say it's okay. We're also not allowed to tell you otherwise if you break the rule without asking.

8. I obey the rules, but once the lead manager said
"Oh, don't count - they'll be happy to check you out."

I had 17 items, the limit was 15, and I was in the back of a lengthy queue behind people with far more groceries than I.

9. other...
I sometimes go with the define "item" internal justification. A couple of bottles of wine aren't two items, I'm buying "wine"...that counts as one, right? Milk, butter, cheese...hey, I'm buying "dairy", I'm only up to two items now, and so on until I'm convinced I'm officially under the limit.

12. Honestly, no.
It's about the one moral code in society that I haven't broken.

13. When I see people in front of me who cheated,
I give them dirty looks. I glare at their items then look up and glare at them, and repeat.

14. Never intentionally...only if I miscounted (and that's only been once or
twice...)
I know how much I hate it when others do that, so I try not to.

16. If there is no one in the express lane, I have only a few items over
the limit and the clerk ok's it, I will use the express lane for more than the alloted number of items.

17. Not only do I religiously follow the rules.
I'm the member of a branch of the Guardian Angels that patrols grocery stories to enforce compliance with express lane regulations. Don't fuck with me.
