Man Struck By Lightening While Sitting In His Car

TAMPA, Fla. -- A man struck by lightning while sitting in his car in Tampa said he expected the outcome to be far worse.

The lightning bolt struck Raymond Galusha on his left hand Saturday night, sending him to the hospital. With singed hair on his arm and back, and a numb tongue, Galusha escaped unharmed.

During the storm, Galusha was sitting in his car with the engine turned off while waiting for a train to pass. Moments later, the lightning hit the train's engine. The bolt jumped from the train to a pickup truck parked in front of Galusha. Then it hit his hand that was sticking out of the window.

The National Weather Service says Florida leads the nation in lightning deaths and injuries.
