Can you pass the immigrant citizenship test?
http://msnbc.msn.com/id/13442226/?GT1=8211

When immigrants want to become Americans, they must take a civics test as part of their naturalization interview before a Citizenship and Immigration Services officer. The questions are usually selected from a list of 100 sample questions that prospective citizens can look at ahead of the interview. Some are easy, some are not. We have picked some of the more difficult ones.

8. Which of the following amendments to the Constitution does NOT address or guarantee voting rights?
24th Amendment is not correct.
7th Amendment

and the INS

You answered 90% of questions correctly. Here's your rating:

0-20%: Maybe you're still thinking too much about the Old Country -- and that's where you should probably be.

25-40%: Mmmm. Do you really want to be a citizen? This kind of performance isn't going to impress those nice immigration folks.

45-60%: Not too bad, but you really need to break out the civics books again -- word is, the INS is looking for an 80 percent score.

65-80%: Hey, you may make a good citizen yet! Look at your wrong answers and a little revision should do the trick.

85-100%: Welcome to the United States! (And, truth be told, you know more about this great land than most Americans.)

13. Why was it a guess? It's called "Application for Naturalization"
I got em all, and I don't see how the majority of them have a darned thing to do with becoming an American citizen. They ought to ask relevant stuff, about voting, laws, rights of accused, etc. Would seem more practical than knowing how many stripes there are.

27. As I recall, another choice sounded equally valid
Something like "Naturalization Form 322." I do agree that these questions seem to test trivia. Perhaps these were gleaned from the test by the news folks who looked past more real-life questions for their angle?

26. 85% here (spoilers)
missed the ammendment not guaranteeing voting rights (7th). and I missed the who chooses supreme court justices question because it the answers were stupidly worded. The president appoints and the senate confirms, thus BOTH are responsible for choosing a supreme court justice. But only given a choice between president and senate, I chose Senate as they have final say, and that was incorrect according to the test because the president appoints the nominee who goes before the Senate for confirmation.

31. 80%
But I only took the first five.

I knew Nunavut was a recent territory, not just how recent.

Got the following right:

When did the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms become part of the Canadian Constitution?

Which animal is an official symbol of Canada?

How many electoral districts are there in Canada?

What should you do if you do not receive a voter information card?

But then again, Washington state is almost a Canadian province.

For people who are actually trying to get in, the name of that form must be very familiar. Asking a bunch of people who never need to use the form its name is kind of like asking about the town square of a small siberian city.
