Poll question: Favorite Jethro Tull number
Repost from long ago http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=105&topic_id=777622
Out of all my music polls, I doubt there was ever another one with more than 100 votes. I have a shrewd notion that won't happen again this time, but I was just curious how the votes would come out two years later; some responses have been changed to reflect the replies to the original poll (ie 7, 8 and 9).

3. Thick as a brick
Edited on Wed Jun-28-06 03:20 PM by ismnotwasm
One of my favorite all time songs.

edit: It's time for a listen now that I think about it...

"Really don't mind if you sit this one out.

My words but a whisper -- your deafness a SHOUT.
I may make you feel but I can't make you think.
Your sperm's in the gutter -- your love's in the sink.
So you ride yourselves over the fields and
you make all your animal deals and
your wise men don't know how it feels to be thick as a brick."
Etc..

4. What's your favorite Carrot Top comedy routine?
I'm sorry. I know a lot of people dig Jethro Tull on this board, and y'all have fun. I could just never get into the "rock flute", now matter how hard I tried.

16. That is seriously..
.. unfair to Ian Anderson. He is one of the best songwriters in the genre, and their music goes way beyond flute :)

Aqualung is brilliant, but so is Passion Play and Songs from the Wood is amazing. Forget the flute and listen!

8. Hymn 43
Oh father high in heaven -- smile down upon your son
whose busy with his money games -- his women and his gun.
Oh Jesus save me!
And the unsung Western hero killed an Indian or three
and made his name in Hollywood
to set the white man free.
Oh Jesus save me!
If Jesus saves -- well, He'd better save Himself
from the gory glory seekers who use His name in death.
Oh Jesus save me!
I saw him in the city and on the mountains of the moon --
His cross was rather bloody --
He could hardly roll His stone.
Oh Jesus save me!

12. Maybe but
I felt the band had tried to become a little "Mainstream" with that album. Acres Wild is kinda cool though.

17. Budapest
Edited on Wed Jun-28-06 07:04 PM by Chichiri
I know, I know, hard rock era and all that. But *I* think it kicks ass, OKAY!? Anyway, I grew up with that album, particularly that song and Mountain Men, which takes number two.

Followed closely by Skating Away, Heavy Horses, and of course, Aqualung.

19. Apparently, Ian Anderson agrees with you
Somebody posted to the original thread that he asked Ian and the answer was Budapest. The poster also PMed me the link, which is how I rediscovered the thread when going through my old PMs, and also how I can easily give you the link here:

22. Was fortunate enough to see Tull in concert in Barcelona Spain
Not so many years back I paid around 15 dollars (not sure what it was in Spanish money) To see Jethro Tull play in concert in Bacelona Spain. The place was packed but it was about the size of a high school gym. We had seats so close that had I had a wad of paper, I could have bounced it off Ian Anderson's noggin while he was jumping around on stadge. Best damn concert I ever went to. It came out about the time that "War Child" (Bungle in the Jungle) LP came out. Saw them do that plus the classic Tull stuff. Incredible. It was magick!!
