...built, primarily in the 1950's and 1960's...these homes now sell for between $800,000.oo and to over $1.5 Million..
Most homes are over 2,000 sq ft. with their characteristic high ceiling elevation. You will still find some of them in certain California communities.

<sighing>

And you're right, I can visit mine anytime I want. Maybe I should try to get acquainted with the owner. ;)

That house is on a great street in Oak Park, IL. Wright's house and studio are on one corner, then there are numerous houses he designed on the street. Maybe if I win big in the Lotto.

There are at least 25 designs of his in this city, so you certainly have your choices.:-)

And I'd definitely cultivate the owner, LOL! If you can't live there, you can be an invited guest...:D

I really love your choice, and would like to just see it inside, though Falling Water is still my favorite, even though it might be sometimes inconvenient to live there...:-)

36. St. Joseph, MO?
I thought that last house in the OP looked familiar. I follow the properties on oldhouses.org myself. Small world.

As for my own dream house, a two-story Victorian here in San Francisco would suit me fine. Must have a large yard, city view and off street parking in either Noe Valley or the Castro. Oh, and it would be on a corner lot because those old houses need lots of light.

And anything on the upper east side of Manhattan (preferably near the Met) wouldn't suck. :)

63. I am in the planning stages on this home.

It is a passive solar design that uses ICF (insulated concrete form) construction. It uses the sun for supplemental heating in the winter. I am also planning on using solar water heating and supplemental solar power. I plan on using geo-thermal heating and cooling. My goal is to consume as little energy as possible.

75. "I don't think I know about second breakfast, Pip"
I've got no idea why, but you just tickled the stuffing out of me! I've been de-stuffed!

There's at least 12 innuendo's, seven bad pun's and maybe one or to good jokes in hidden in that... but it's been a long day.

81. That's exactly what it is
That's exactly what it is. The kinda place to spend a relaxing evening in front of the fireplace with a good book after coming home from the Green Dragon.

(I'm not really a geek, but I was a fan of the books and the movies, too)

83. Just had mine moved in on Friday
A 2200 sq ft home, 4 bedroom, 3 bath. Den with a fireplace, family room, formal dining room and a huge kitchen. Not your typical mobile home either. Tile floors and counter tops, drywalled walls, porcelain sinks and Moen faucets. No cheesy mobile home crap. All top quality stuff in the home. Just can't wait!! Will be moving into it in a couple of weeks!!

After it is completely set up, the guys will put the siding back on. They took it off to prevent any damage during the move.

This side has the front door.

Pretty front door

Funny thing is, this was sitting in a holding lot that the foundation company has just down the road from our property. The day before it was moved, someone stole the back door off of our home. They took the door that wasn't really worth anything. My m-i-l paid almost $800 for the front door! Also that was the only thing that was taken, everything inside was left alone. We think something fishy is going on. We are waiting to see if it "Pops up" sometime soon.

Yes absolutely,
This is the Imperial Palace in Tokyo...its still nice though...

I would have it built on the Sausalito side of the San Francisco bay...

87. Seems kind of modest
for an Imperial Palace... but, since you were so modest in the picture thread, I guess it suits you.

Sadly, I can't!

The Amherst Wilder house in St. Paul-- one of those gorgeous Summit Avenue mansions was demolished years ago. Just the thought of it makes me sad and nauseous.

89. We had that happen in Chicago as well....

The above is the old Potter Palmer mansion that used to be on North Lake Shore Drive. It was demolished in 1950 to make room for a high-rise.

92. Fuckers!
I absolutely detest seeing gorgeous architecture destroyed. Especially to put up something as soulless and uninteresting as a freaking highrise.

I remember reading about the Potter Palmer. I think they discuss it in "Devil in the White City." Fascinating book.

93. I wish I had seen that house....but I was a baby when it was torn down.
Potter Palmer founded the Marshall Field department store and the Palmer House Hotel (now a Hilton) here. He and his wife, Bertha Honore, were quite the host and hostess of their era.

I should read "Devil in the White City". It has been recommended to me by someone whose recommendations are usually wonderful and just have not gotten around to acquiring it. But that was definitely the Palmer era. Heading out to the mall tomorrow, there MUST be a Barnes & Noble out there (new location, etc...) and I guess I will stop there.

97. Do it!
One of the best books I've read about Chicago history.

The best part being the juxtaposition of this beautiful incredible wonderland that Burnham and company were building, and the evil that was occurring behind the scenes that Holmes was creating. Absolutely amazing.

94. Wish I could find a pic of this one.
You'd die. It's a bit similar to your bottom pic, maybe a bit smaller. It needs alot of work and there is almost no yard (in the oldest part of town). It needs work in the thousands for it to be livable (a friend estimated about $35,000 just to make it livable).

It's been on the market for years. Guess how much they want? $29,5000.

(BTW-I live in a college town and w/in an easy enough commute to KC. I'm thinking the place had to be a spot of a mass murder or something to be that cheap. No one has lived there the entire time I've lived in this town.)
