Dr. Gonzo Roars! *pics*
Edited on Mon Jun-26-06 09:31 PM by haruka3_2000

Dr. Gonzo is pretty happy in this shot, as I finally got all that dead skin off him. Shiny, happy bearded dragon. He's definitely showing off his stump in the third shot.

2. As long as he's in a good mood and there's no food around.
I get bit regularly (and it hurts like hell) feeding him. He gets really excited about food. This is probably why he's much bigger than his sister. My feeding method usually is to throw some food on the opposite side of the cage, to give me time to really feed him.

4. Well, he came with the stump (I've had him since a wee baby) but...
one of his siblings bit off his leg, part of his tail, and several toes.

My other bearded dragon (his sister, Raoul Duke) also has a stump, but she has a stump for her rear left leg. She got in a fight with Dr. Gonzo one day and well, they've lived seperate lives ever since.

Having a rear stump is easier on them. Dr. Gonzo has a hard time climbing around, so he lives in a handicapped-accessible cage. In order for him to get suitable high up to back, I ghetto-rigged him a ramp using a cardboard cat scratcher, two bricks, and an old cutting board. Not pretty, but it works.

6. He's not really scary. And if he goes after you...
just throw a carrot or a radish in the opposite direction and he'll go after that instead.

8. Nice marmot
Just kidding, interesting about the stumps. What do you feed them?

Guy in a nearby town has a nile monitor that needs to be fed carefully too - I was amazed.

Used to work in a pet store long ago - nobody had these big lizards back then, although I can remember baby aligators (or crocs?)at the local Woolco store (oh my god does anybody remember them? were they national or just Arizona?)

9. They're mostly vegetarian as adults...
They always have a bowl of bearded dragon dry food in their tanks. They also get some dandelion greens (or spinach) everyday with assorted chopped up fruits and vegetables (favorites being radishes, carrots, and strawberries). A couple times a week, they also each get a couple dozen crickets and about a dozen superworms (big mealworms).

Do you mean woolworth? We had them in NJ when I was a kid, but they all went out of buisiness. I'd love to get a Savannah monitor, but until I move back out on my own, no excessively large reptiles or any snakes. I really want to get another ball python.

12. Wow they can handle something as hard as carrots?
The only thing we had back in the day were green iguanas - pretty similar diet.

No Woolco was sort of like k-mart. It MAY have been connected to the Woolworth company but we had those too, so it was different.

13. Well, I chop the carrots up small, but yeah, no problem with them.
These guys have some pretty serious jaws. When I'm bit, they're drawing blood and it hurts like hell.

They absolutely love baby carrots though (cut into tiny pieces). Carrots and strawberries and some superworms and you have a happy dragon.
