I'm doing a lot of what I used to do, except I don't get paid for it anymore. However, we get as many FREE movie and theater tickets and interesting books for preview.

See the right column of my journal page for more information.

10. Benefits Analyst
I oversee file transfers and analyze data related to employee health and welfare benefits. I help HR departments administer those benefits for their employees. The good thing is, at least at the level I am at and my contacts are at, we really want to help the employees and make sure the plans work for them. We aren't thinking how to screw people to save money on healthcare costs.

Sometimes I still think I'd support a single payer system, even if it means I would likely be out of a job.

Currently, I'm into helping my hubby with his internet/software-related business, and being a thorn in my husband's side. I do occasional paralegal and research work. I earned a law degree (law doctorate) two years ago. Before that, I was a social service practitioner ("social worker"); before that, I was a therapist-intern. Prior to that, I was into auditing and accounting.

51. Right now nothing much
I am the son of a carpenter so I have years of experience building custom homes during the mid 60's . I have spent the last 30 years in the auto repair field at ford dealerships and was finally a service manager .

I have also built electric guitars mostly for myself and did sell quite a few . I also learned how to build tube powered guitar amplifiers .

I had alot of hobbies and these became part time obsessions .

Now I can't find a job in any fields I know about so I have just stated training for 6 days , 2 completed for phone based fund raising for various no profit organizations . The pay is low but if you are good you can make $14 per hour . I don't know if I can handle it yet since it's really directed and monitored . Time will tell and I am worried I will fail like a fish out of water here .

You could say I am a 57 year old career seeker right now with bills to pay .

102. Dude, best of luck
with the web media gig. Its not hard to get up to speed on the current state, but its monumentally hard to keep up with technology weeks at a time.

I paid for my house through my own web media business profits. However, it became too hard for me to keep up with some of the new tech (finished grad school at the same time), so I dropped it.

Keep it up and you can do it!

65. I fart occasionally
It is my most consistent profession, one i've been at for several decades.

:-)

Eating, taking baths and showers, shaving, brushing the teeth, wiping the
behind, blowing the nose and feeding the face.

I write on the internet, and put on shoes. Get my bank pin number confused
between credit cards, feel pains in my bank account paying for gas,
like good sex, like good love, like swimming in the ocean, like watching
those i love succeed, like freedom and liberty.

Ordinary, that career, indeed.

101. Farmer. I love the trough and especially admire the gravel
I do organic produce for several local restaurants. We also train, compete, breed and sell event/dressage horses. Plus we run a boarding operation (40 stalls).

I would love to get a beef cow but I think my boarders would go nuts if/when a cow would show up in the paddocks. We are contemplating relocating to a situation where we can grow our own food and the sight of a chicken won't make some overweight amateur rider/owner hyperventilate.

Did I mention how much I admire your gravel?

How do you keep your troughs ice-free over the winter? My staff keep shorting the lines when they splash water on the outlets when we scrub.

Do you use goldfish for algae control?

Sorry about the grilling. I just get giddy thinking there is another DU'er who gets the farming thang.

139. What is with the gravel love?
I guess it's good for mud, but we haven't had that in 10 years. Ice either, really. That is about 5 miles from here and a bit lower at around 3,500 feet.

I have gold fish here at headquarters, but yeah I should put some down there! Thanks.

My garden (organic!) this year is in a trough smaller than that one! I have 4 tomatos, 2 zuchini, one bell pepper, a lavander plant and some zinnias :( gophers killed a three year old fig tree and a one year old peach. Two year old apricot is hanging in there. Something is eating my concord grape a few leaves at time and other than some 70 year old pecans that is about it for food plants around here.

Chickens running underfoot are GREAT training for skittish horses, don't you think? I wouldn't think a couple head of cattle would be too bad - especially if they were kept close to where the horses could get used to them.

Perhaps me picking up her work ethic is why I work two jobs, 80 hours per week - or maybe its just the lifestyle.

The actor, Thomas Hayden Church, was on one of the late night shows this week. He played in the movie "Sideways" -- he's a big handsome guy. He revealed that he owns a couple of cattle ranches.

The host asked him what he did as a rancher -- for example, how did he round up the cattle? Did he gallop up to the cattle on his horse and yell something -- like you see in the movies?

"Naw," he replied. "We usually round them up in our truck -- we just blow the horn really loud!"

I guess California Peggy inspired me - that's the first of me on the internets - yikes :scared:

I don't even do much of any kind of round up any more - mostly call them in with a whistle! (training to a horn can be dangerous - they learn to follow vehicles and most don't use a "code" so thieves can pull up and steal your cattle pretty easy if they know you do that)
