1. umm..."polite, sane discussion"?? Have you been in GD lately?
Just kidding. Personally, I've always thought the name was wholly appropriate, in that democracy itself seems to have been driven underground by the Bush administration.

3. It's too early to trust you with our subversive plans.
We wait until you are asleep before we start planning things. We'll let you in on everything once the plans are in place, be ready.

7. It was born soon after the coup of 2000...
In that period, and especially after 9-11, it seemed like a very apt name, since any kind of left or liberal speech was so completely squelched. In the last couple of years, things have actually gotten a bit better, but you have to remember the time when DU began...

was very secretive. You could hardly get someone to tell you what state they lived in.

12. Yes, we've sanely discussed many topics, including the following:
Edited on Sun Jun-25-06 05:39 PM by Beware the Beast Man
- Laura Branigan
- Cornflake-coated fried chicken
- Fat Actress
- the Tallying of Votes on "Survivor"
- Aaron Spelling
- Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam
- Olive Garden
- children's behavior patterns in public places, including restaurants
- should racy t-shirt banner adds be acceptable on DU?
- dog breeding- yea or nay?
- usage of the terms "White Trash" and "Trailer Trash"
- Tom Cruise

I could go on for days.

16. Escalators may have been before my time.
Or I wasn't involved in that one.

Perhaps it's my participation in some of the above sane discussions that have made me hated by a good swath of the DU population...
