16. Sure, all that freezing snow and darkness.
Yep I'd sure miss that laying on the beach in winter and it being 75 degrees out with a clear blue sky. Yep, I'd miss that snow.

Just kidding. It will be a cultural shock so hope you get a good place to live NEAR THE OCEAN.

13. Yay! You and clan in CA!
Wish I could give you some help!

After moving so many times in the last few years, have learned these things:

If you have a shredder, start shredding those useless papers, then use the shredded stuff for lightweight and effective packing material for breakables.

Adding rolled newspapers as liners to boxes for dishes, breakables, etc., helps to cushion and is better then buying those heavy dish carton boxes.

Use all unnecessary towels and linens for between dishes. Unneeded clothing can do the same thing.

Start by packing breakables.

Use boxes of the same, or close to the same size, as much as possible. Makes things much easier when loading up the truck.

Use large construction strength plastic bags to start your donation items. Home Depot, Lowe's carry these.

If it takes more than 2 minutes to decide if you really want a certain item, you probably haven't used it in years and if it really doesn't hold personal meaning, then donate it. Same with clothing.

Pack up kitchen leaving only those items you use daily to be packed at moving time.

Damn! Good Luck, KW!

Looking forward to having you here out west! :hi: :loveya:

21. Hire somebody to help pack if you get behind.
There should be some packers available to help you get packed from a temporary, day labor agency out there in Minnesota and they can help you get things packed in boxes quicker than you might think.

I know, I know - your stuff is precious, whose isn't?

Anyway, have them use plenty of wadded up brown paper or packing peanuts to make sure the stuff in the boxes won't rattle around and cause the boxes to shift during moving.

You've still got plenty of time yet - but you'll get more done directing 2 or 3 other packers than doing all the packing yourself - and you won't be wasted by the end of the day.

Heloise's Helpful Hint for moving -
Buy some of those stick 'em labels they use for videotapes and label the boxes by room to make it easier. Put the label on one side of the box near the top to be able to read them when stacked.
Will save you many hours when you go to unpack.

44. Welcome to Orange county! I have lived here for close to
30 years. Depending where you set down roots it can be heaven or it can be unpleasant. It can be very expensive for housing or even renting. In north OC you can still get some affordable housing if your idea of housing is in the $400,000-600,000 range for a 2 bedroom 2 bath home. In southern OC it would be about the same for a condo. But overall you can not beat the location. 1 hour from the mountains, desert, and much less to the best beaches (short of Hawaii) in the states. Welcome!

49. Congratulations! Orange Co is quite different from Twin Cities
You will have to change baseball teams from the twinkies to the Orginas,
You will pack your winter clothes away until you go camping in the mts.
You will not be able to find lefse in the stores.
Or lutefisk.
Which is good.
To not find it I mean.
COngratulations!

But I cook so I can get some good lefse recipes before I go.

Will not change my Twins fandom, but I will be a fan from afar.

I will miss Culvers, but I am gaining In N Out Burger.

I will keep the winter clothes for those holiday visits back to MN.

My latest mantra...fresh produce, very fresh produce!
