Are Remixes EVER Good?

I like them occasionally, although I do agree some bands just go way overboard with them. But most of my friends despise all remixes.

What say you?

That's the great thing about being old - I'm too old to be cool anyway, so I can like whatever I like and remain the same level of uncool.

2. Lots of remixes are good....

And some are even better than the original tracks. Ever heard Beck's Guerolito? It is a remixed version of his album Guero, with a few big names doing the remixes: Boards of Canada, Royksopp and M83. Bloc Party's Silent Alarm Remixed is also a great album, better than the original... M83 (again), Ladytron, etc. I would also recommend the remixes of Depeche Mode tracks... Goldfrapp is frequently called to do them, and they're great too.

3. Occasionally.

Many songs I know of are better as their original entities. More 'soul' in the works.

Remixes often lack the 'soul' and just sound needlessly noisy.

But there are certain electronica/dance remixes that are better than the original. The PSB remix of Madonna's "Sorry" readily comes to mind.
