oh jesus, I can't believe I'm posting this

Look, lots of people eat at "That Place"-- my mum and sister love it. It's not my place, but whatever floats your boat, right?

But if you're in New Fucking York City, and you eat at "That Place"-- that boggles my mind. Really. It does.
I have the same reaction to friends who go to "That Place" in Boston while skipping the North End-- it makes no sense. At all.

Why go to someplace like that when you have an entire city of culinary delights to await you? I'd love to hear a response to this, because for the life of me, I can't understand it.

So really, it has less to do with "That Place" and where the people are. My sister who likes "That Place" is in Oregon and doesn't have the access that I would...

(And I'll be in NYC this weekend with the bf-- I'd love more recommendations for some good chow as we always love exploring the city)

1. What a let down
With a subject line like that I was expecting wild confessions or scandalous pictures. meh
;)

Unless of course you mean "eating out" at "that place" in a whole other way, which makes reading this post really funny.

5. I was just about to post "I don't care where you eat in NYC
as long as you bring me back a doggie bag." Suddenly though I've lost my appetite!

6. I ate at "That Place" in NYC
I was at a conference, and I needed somewhere close, fast and cheap for lunch. I like their salads and it was pretty much across the street.

For the most part, I stay away from chains when I travel...and at home. Sometimes though, they're convenient.

8. I've offered some suggestions in other threads, but I'll add these:
If you want some AMAZING Cuban, go to Victor's. I think it's on 51 St, just west off Broadway. If not 51, then 50 or 52. Pricey, but FUCKING good! Try the Paella, and they have the best Mojitos in town. An amazing place.

For peasant Cuban that's also amazing, there's a place around 108th and Broadway, on Broadway, on the west side of the street. I can't remember the name, though. Cheap food, and it'll make your toes curl with the goodness.

11. sam goes for San Francisco. unless....
you are craving that specific salad and breadsticks.

I assume we are talking about the same place. I have been to that place when I just needed a fix, it is like a drug. only once or twice a year, I swear.

if not there, then where?

12. I think a friend of mine put it aptly...
...he said, "Sometimes you want to dine, and sometimes you just want to fill the hole." "That other place", Micky D's, Arby's, and any number of other chains "fill the hole" adequately, if that's what you need at the time, but I wouldn't exactly call it dining.

14. I got a better one than that:
When my brother, who lives in San Francisco, visits my mom in Texas, she takes him to the local Chinese buffet to eat! Like he comes to Texas for Chinese food!
