Such a wonderful story, even if it is Disneyfied. The music is just wonderful too.

2. Hands down, my favorite Disney film...
...outside the Pixar group ones. I never much got into the "Princess" ones but this story never gets tired.

3. It didn't do so well in China
If I can recall, they thought Mulan was drawn to look too much like a Korean girl (!?). There was also some kind of cultural issue with the "recognition" that she gets in the movie - her being singled out was somehow out of keeping with the Chinese military tradition of "teamwork" and group accountability for heroic deeds.

It's been a while but those are two of the reasons I remember for why it bombed there.

Mulan is also one of my favorite Disney films. Beauty and the Beast is right up there. That girl is a reader (love that!), and she is also portrayed as a brave, independent thinker - I loved the role-modelling for girls in that one.

And the singing! Isn't this the same singer who starred in Miss Saigon? What a voice.....
