Under what circumstances did you hear the best ghost story you ever heard?

1. I heard a really good one when I was about nine
in the basement of my grandparent's house with only a candle for light. It was told by a Navajo, and it scared me badly. Sadly enough, I can't remember anything else about it, because nine was a long long time ago.

2. Around a campfire, natch.
It was at a Camp Fire Girls summer camp when I was about 8 years old. Something about a woman right after the Civil War having an illegitimate child and throwing it off a bridge onto a railroad track in Marysville, Ohio. Ever since then, on the nights there are full moons, supposedly the woman haunts the bridge (it's called, Crybaby Bridge). My sister-in-law says that it's local legend and she had heard the story as well.
