1. Would you?
If someone paid me gobs of money to do something I'd probably keep doing it. I haven't listened to much of his recent material but I'm willing to cut him some slack due to the absolute brilliance of his earlier records

3. Okay, he can keep working, but
Can we as a society stop praising him for his ability to recycle?

And maybe get someone else to sing for him--his voice makes me desperate to vomit.

2. Isn't he doing Disney soundtracks now?
When you sink to that level, fuck YES, Retire. Immediately.

He peaked in the 80's. It's all been downhill since.

4. "We Love LA" is sufficient reason to strike him from human memory
Edited on Wed Jun-14-06 01:30 PM by Orrex
His work with Disney merely underscores that reason.

5. What has Randy Newman ever done to you?
Perhaps you are not familiar with his whole body of work. He is an enormously talented musician, composer, and lyracist which is why he is so successful and has been for a long time in a very tough business. Many of his songs have progressive themes that support society's underdogs and those who've been treated unfairly versus the crooks and thugs wearing expensive suits, politicians, big businessmen, and the generic red-neck white man, who have done the oppressing and criminal acts. Many of his songs are based on historical events and satirize the mythology Americans have been taught as history.

Dig a little deeper into his work and you may even begin to enjoy his work.

8. Welcome to DU, ru4truth!
:hi:

I'm all for a progressive message, but he's just not my cup of tea. And when I can identify his presence on a soundtrack from a single piano chord, it's time to move on IMO.

6. Poli Sci
No one likes us-I don't know why
We may not be perfect, but heaven knows we try
But all around, even our old friends put us down
Let's drop the big one and see what happens

We give them money-but are they grateful?
No, they're spiteful and they're hateful
They don't respect us-so let's surprise them
We'll drop the big one and pulverize them

Asia's crowded and Europe's too old
Africa is far too hot
And Canada's too cold
And South America stole our name
Let's drop the big one
There'll be no one left to blame us...

7. Ah, the B*Sh Administration foreign policy statement set to music.
Love that song.

My wife and I adore "Feels Like Home". We always hold hands while listening to it together. How disgusting is that?
