1. Well, I voted for the a/c.....
It really works......

Alas, I wish there were other ways to accomplish it.....

But we built it into our house, and by god, it works.......

Of course, as soon as it cools off outside, we turn it off, and open the windows.....

:hi:

2. At least in California it does cool off.
Try Florida. 95 at noon, 88 and super muggy at midnight.

 (wiping off sweat, not crying)

It's like that here in Japan, but only for 2 or 3 months. In Miami it was like that for at least 10 months.

3. My dear Yollam!
Humidity sucks!

I will never live in Florida!

Or Hawaii....or anywhere where the humidity is so high as to make you sweat all the time...

You have my complete sympathies!

IF we are lucky, on days where its 108 degrees in Concord California, its only 53 degrees here. Grey but cool.
Its something you get used to eventually.

21. Not smoggy --Your thinking of Los Angeles ..
We have a constant wind flow into the city since we are on the bay and by the ocean.

24. Los Angeles also has lots of fog for the same reason
Edited on Tue Jun-13-06 08:32 AM by kwassa
Most of the smog blows east of downtown. They also have the onshore flow and the marine layer. Summer on the beach in LA can be a lot cooler than people realize.

I lived 17 years there in the LA basin, never had AC, never needed it.

Now, the Valley, on the other hand .... LA has many different climates.

Edited on Tue Jun-13-06 04:51 AM by scoey1953
I know the Safeway you refer to, I don't think so. This seems to be up farther..with a look towards
Sutro tower. Maybe Dolores at Mission.

4. If there was no A/C...
I would blow my brains out in the summer.

My apartment gets so fucking stuffy and disgusting during our Chicago 100°/100% humidity days.

Honestly, summer is my least favourite season. You can only take off SO MANY pieces of clothing, and even then it's not comfortable. Sweating like a pig after taking 10 steps out the door isn't fun.

I hibernate inside in my A/C fortress of solitude for as long as possible.

Otherwise I open windows and run fans.

6. A/C is a lifesaver for my allergies...but the cost....sigh.
I only run A/C during the day in the summer (when I'm home).
At night the fans do fine.

Anybody know which is cheaper? I have window A/C units and two or so plug in fans.

19. easy way to find out which is cheaper
look at the units and see how much energy they use. that wont get you a reduction in degrees/cost ratio that you want, but it should tell you something.

7. if there was no A/C, Texas would have half as many people
I am convinced the upsurge in population in Texas is directly related to the availability of airconditioning to the average person. I remember going to the movies to cool off!

and taking cool baths to cool down.
take a cool shower and lie down on the bed with the fan on just to be able to get to sleep.

8. Can I combine the last two answers?
I open all the windows, turn on the fan and then put on as little as I can get away with and sit there and sweat.

Then I take a shower and start the whole thing over again.

But that's okay because....it's a dry heat.

:eyes:

13. Usually a fan
don't have a/c.

However, one apartment I lived in used to regularly be 5 degrees above the outside temperature, so when it got to 33+C outside(that's 90), I was always drenched. I'd use the fan, open the windows, bathe in cold water and always have clothes in the freezer to put on.

And drank LOTS of lemonade. :D

15. My A/C has been on since April
It will stay on until September. I can't stand the heat.

I have central A/C in the house.

I have a window unit in the garage & only use it if I'm working out there.

to my air-conditioned car to my air-conditioned office. I avoid the outside heat as much as possible. I hate to sweat.
