$399 for a prescription/insurance snafu UPDATE
original thread

I got in touch w/ the benefits person at my former employer. She said that when she got my message on Friday she had a look at everything and, sure enough, found that my prescription benefits had been terminated by mistake. She fixed it up and now I have my prescription coverage back.

I must let everyone know that I am extremely grateful to have this coverage. I know so well the state of health insurance in this country. It's not even one of the top five - maybe not even the top ten - issues being ignored by the administration & Congress in favor of "protecting marriage." Yet it should be at the top, tied with education funding. :grr:

1. Glad it was straightened out, Bertha
You are right however: why isn't national health front and center in the media and Washington?

Probably because the insurance industry lobbyists don't have the magic public/private partnership deal set up yet. God forbid we had big government health care like those national plans in Canada and Europe.

2. Something similar happened to me
when I changed employers in October. I had a routine physical in late October, but coverage was paid up until October 31 under my old policy. New policy was effective November 1. The idjits at Blue Cross put my last day of employment as the last date of coverage, which wasn't so. They denied all of the claims for the office visit, lab work, etc., and to top it all off, they denied my prescription refills too. It took them until early December to straighten it all out. Fortunately, my doctor's office was pretty understanding, and in the 15+ years I've been going there, they've never had any problems with me. I applaud the CVS pharmacist who took it upon himself to keep tabs on all of this and kept in touch with me until it was all straightened out. (That took less time---about a week---until that part of it was straight.)

I'm glad for your sake that it's straightened out now for you! :)
