sprayed by a skunk! help!
last night, around 2 a.m. i woke out of a deep sleep to the evil odor of ... a skunk.

i closed the windows and pulled the blanket over my nose and managed to get back to sleep, but woke this morning to find that my cat, and my front porch had been sprayed.

we bathed the cat in a concotion of baking soda, peroxide, and dish soap (i'm fairly sure she will never forgive me), bleached the porch, and sprayed a vinegar solution everywhere else we smelled skunk.

i still smell it.

how can i get rid of skunk smell? anyone know?

1. My wife
hit a skunk three years ago, and it sprayed her engine block, and its remains stuck to the bottom of her car, so we had cooked skunk smell, plus heated skunk spray...

We used a TON of freebreeze...it covered it up, a little bit...but it took about a week for the smell to go away, or we just got use to it :) who knows...;)

2. Our dog has been sprayed twice
The first time it was so severe that at first the odor started not to smell that bad because it no longer even smelled like skunk, but more like garlic. Anyway, we tried tomato sauce, tomato paste, baths, etc. Some may have helped a little, but it actually took a few months before we completely stopped noticing any skunk smell in our house.

3. A better solution.....

Tomato juice also neutralizes the effects of skunk odor. Rub it into your pet's fur, let it soak for approximately 15 minutes, then wash it off with water.

Or even better

* 1 quart 3 percent hydrogen peroxide
* 1/4 cup baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
* 1 teaspoon liquid soap or dish detergent
* Mix these together and bathe ("shampoo" in or rub down) the spray victim thoroughly.
* Be sure to use this mixture immediately after it is created, as it is unstable.
* Rinse with tap water afterward, and repeat if necessary.
* For spray in the eyes, flush with water as soon as possible.

5. TOMATO JUICE
It is the only thing that works on skunks from Mississippi. Let it soak for as long as you can and drink lots of it too!
Dont use V8 cause it has other things in it (watercress and carrots) that dilute the Tomato. Wash you hair and body in it too.

Who told you to use baking soda, peroxide, and dish soap on your cat?? It will make their fur fall out if left on too long.

one word... Tomato Juice and lots of it!
